ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Monroe Community Mental Health Authority is a community based mental health service organization dedicated to consumers living in Monroe County. We provide individual health services for people with any type of behavioral health concerns such as substance abuse, emotional issues, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our services are open to anyone in Monroe County who does not have insurance and cannot pay, or are insured by Medicaid, MIChild, or Health Plan of Michigan (HPM). Only those with Medicaid are guaranteed services.

DESCRIPTION

The SUD Jail Diversion Peer Support Specialist will act as a support and resource for adults who are in the correctional setting and preparing for exit (or recently exited) the criminal justice system who need supports related to substance abuse and behavioral health treatment services. The peer shall follow the Mission CJ treatment process when working with individuals in the corrections settings and in the community. The SUD Jail Diversion Peer Support Specialist will act as a key member of the treatment team by working with consumers one-on-one to support them in achieving goals through building new life skills, facilitating the completion of a Mission CJ participant program workbook and connecting consumers to community resources. The SUD Jail Diversion Peer Support Specialist will support consumer skills in order to improve their overall functioning and quality of life. The peer will work on either the male team serving men incarcerated at the Monroe County Jail or on the woman's team servicing women incarcerated in the Monroe County Jail and/r the Huron Valley Women's Prison. This position works in tandem with the SUD Jail Diversion clinician assigned to their men's or woman's team. This position reports to the Jail Diversion SUD Clinical Services Supervisor/Coordinator.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS REQUIREMENTS:

• Have a High School diploma or GED.
• Completion of or have the ability to complete the state approved training for Certified Peer Support Specialists.
• A self-identified current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services who can relate to others who are now using these services.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the Intercept model.
• Within the last three years, have 12 months (not necessarily consecutive) full or part-time paid or volunteer work experience: one year of college or other educational experience (within the last three years) can be substituted for work experience.
• A commitment to recovery, choice, empowerment, and the ability of people with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders to find meaningful lives in the community.
• Ability to establish a trusting relationship with peers, including excellent interpersonal skills.
• Detail oriented with good writing and organizational abilities.
• Ability to network within the community and work with diverse populations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
• Satisfy required State Police clearances.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, judiciary, court administration, and community agencies
