Job Summary/Basic Function:

Basic Function and Responsibility: A required live-in position to assist in day-to-day Summer Housing and Conference operations. This is a 3-month position that requires 30-40 hours a week, including night and weekend hours.

Duties will include: assisting with Camps and Conferences, addressing crisis situations, planning events, evaluating assorted systems, occupancy management, conference services, and residence education, assisting with summer orientation events, and performing projects as assigned.



Level Scope:

Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.



Essential Functions:

60% of time, the Summer Conference Assistant will:

  • Assist in training RAs in their summer role.
  • Schedule Summer Desk Assistants to their assigned service desks
  • Ensure appropriate staff coverage for the RA desk role.
  • Hold Weekly staff meetings with student staff.
  • Coordinate the Orientation check-ins and check-outs.
  • Be present at Orientation check-in and check-outs.
  • Ensure all rooms are move-in ready for Orientations.
  • Serves on-call during orientation nights.
  • Assist Summer Staff in any day-to-day tasks that relate to camps and conferences.
  • Critically think and assist in any guest or resident issues.
  • Be knowledgeable of the Conference Programmer system and other Boise State University systems.
  • Develop goals for Summer RA’s to complete by the end of summer.
  • Attend on occasion - Programs hosted by the Summer RA’s
  • Compile and send out final billing to Conference guests after Check-out.

35% of time, the Summer Conference Assistant will:

  • Work with students to create and plan large-scale and small-scale events.
  • Ensure that students are completing roommate agreements and occupancy checks.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from students, staff, and the public.
  • Serves on-call during orientation nights.
  • Compile damage charges, late fees, and miscellaneous charges to conference invoices.
  • Ensure appropriate staff coverage in summer buildings.
  • Share appropriate information and feedback openly, professionally, and respectfully.
  • Maintains productive work relationships while considering multiple perspectives and using effective conflict resolution practices.
  • Uses sensitivity in communicating with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Appreciate the difference between effort and achievement and produce results that are important to the unit.
  • Grasp the inevitability and challenges of change and adapts tactics accordingly; utilize learning opportunities to prepare for changing work and methods.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to carry out responsibilities and a positive approach to accomplishing work.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of how work aligns with organizational mission, vision, and university environment.

  • Make sure performance goals, checkpoints, and feedback focus on behaviors.

  • Observes individual performance and provide fair and objective feedback.
  • Uses effective listening skills to support students’ emotional physical, occupational, and social development, and provide appropriate referrals.

5% of time, the Summer Conference Assistant:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records and other office procedures and terminology
  • Ability to communicate information effectively

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree and effective communication and organizational skill.



Salary and Benefit s:

$16.50 per hour. On campus housing provided.

This is a temporary position that is not eligible for benefits.
