The Woodbury County Extension Council, county staff and ISU Extension and Outreach staff work together to provide research-based learning opportunities for our citizens. Through this partnership, we carry Iowa State University’s land-grant mission across Woodbury County.

Summer Youth/4-H Assistant

a. Position Title: Summer Youth/4-H Assistant

b. Location: ISU Extension and Outreach Woodbury County Office

II. Description:

a. To provide support to ISU Extension and Outreach in Woodbury County and to assist and provide local 4- H and youth programming and events related to summer camps and county fair.

Ill. Major Duties and Responsibilities

a. Assist staff to implement 4-H events connected with the 4-H programming at fair.

b. Assist in preparations made for the fair entries, livestock entries and shows, 4-H static judging, communication events and county council.

c. Organize and assist with youth summer camps

d. Support 4-H volunteers/leaders in their work with the fair.

e. Office and clerical work related to extension and outreach programming.

f. Other duties as assigned.

IV. Position Specifications and Candidate Qualifications

a. Candidate Qualifications

i. One year past high school and High School Diploma or equivalent.

1. *Not a current member of FFA

ii. Knowledge of 4-H and the county/community preferred, but not required.

iii. Ability to work positively and collaboratively with others.

iv. Willingness and ability to travel within Woodbury County.

v. Ability to work a flexible schedule especially during fair. July 31-Aug. 6, 2023

vi. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate time and job activities.

vii. Basic computer skills (Microsoft office, e-mail).

viii. Ability to work and communicate with youth and adults.

ix. U.S. Citizen or legal to work in U.S.

V. Accountability:

a. Supervision is provided by the Regional Director.

b. This person will receive day-to-day directions from the County Director and Extension program staff.

VI. Terms of Employment

a. Hourly wage established by the Extension Council. Must pass background check.

b. Hours would be approximately 24-40 hours per week starting around May 16 to August 6, 2023, with hours negotiable each week. There will be a potential for more hours during the week of the fair.

c. Mileage, while on official county business, will be paid at the rate current at the federal level.

d. Meal expenses will be reimbursed, when appropriate, at actual costs, as per county policy.

e. Must have a valid driver’s license.
