Job Summary

This position is for a working supervisor for the MountainWest Pipeline (MWP) Design Drafting team. As a working supervisor, this supervisor leads and supervises the Design Drafting team by scheduling, prioritizing, and coordinating work, reviewing work products, providing direction and mentorship to team members, and leading the team to improve processes and provide better customer service. At MWP, a working supervisor performs supervisor tasks and works as a member of the team completing own assigned capital and maintenance projects.

Working closely with MWP Management and direct supervision, successful candidates should possess the right blend of interpersonal skills, applicable work experience, technical knowledge, self & team management experience, organizational skills, project management skills, and decision-making to lead and manage a team responsible for the following:

  • Design mechanical piping systems and associated facilities for the transmission of natural gas for a FERC regulated interstate transmission pipeline company. Associated facilities include meter stations, compressor stations, natural gas processing facilities (refrigerant plants, dehydrating equipment), valve assemblies, pigging & Integrity Management facilities, and the aboveground facilities for underground gas storage
  • Understand and proficiently operate Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (including AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD Civil 3D, BIM360, Navisworks, MicroStation (2D), and occasionally CADWorx Plant) for the development of accurate 3D piping and civil models for 1.) the development of engineering and construction drawings and 2.) an accurate and timely record documenting operating facilities
  • Develop Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs) for natural gas pipeline transmission facilities and keep them both current and accurate
  • Work with Engineering to develop new designs and modify existing designs to meet operational and customer needs
  • Support internal customers across the company including Operations, Measurement, Compliance, and Engineering. Support may include providing drawings and assisting to identify solutions to operational issues
  • Ensure that drawings and models are up to date and accurate
  • Develop and maintain project schedules yet be flexible reprioritize work in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Prepare and communicate project status and budget reports
  • Work with Information Technology (IT) to trouble-shoot and keep CAD software and hardware operable and current
  • Review and update drawing standards and drawing library
  • Work with Engineering Consultants providing drawing library files and direction to augment design work
  • Support permit applications and environmental clearances required to perform construction and remediation activities
  • Ensure accuracy of as-built information for assigned projects
  • Comply with applicable codes, laws, and company policies

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

The knowledge, skills, abilities and experience required for entry into this job include the following:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant Design Drafting or applicable engineering experience using CAD
  • A strong foundation in the fundamentals of engineering design, digital modeling fundamentals, solid modeling software, principles, and concepts and their application to solving real-world problems
  • Leadership and management skills to motivate, inspire, and guide a diverse team working in the fast-paced and challenging environment of managing and executing projects and providing support to Operations personnel
  • Be flexible and resilient in dynamic and evolving environment while prioritizing and managing multiple competing priorities
  • Ensure quality and strive to find practical solutions and workarounds to overcome bottlenecks and problems
  • Able to delegate and assign tasks to team members, monitor quality, and track work completion
  • Communicate effectively and develop rapport with diverse team members and customers
  • Effective decision-making skills
  • Able to develop the technical and leadership skills of team members
  • Effective oral and written communication skills (includes technical writing and technical reviewing)
