Job description
The Blood Bank Supervisor under the supervision of the Director of Laboratory Services supervises services in the Laboratory Services according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.
Maintain current knowledge in area of the day-to-day supervision and oversight of the departmental operation and personnel performing testing and reporting results within the Blood Bank. Educational requirements, two year associate degree with five years experience in high complexity testing or four year bachelor degree with three years high complexity testing, ASCP, NCA, or HEW certified as MT or MLT preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implements a comprehensive Quality Control program for all aspects of laboratory services offered, ensuring all instrumentation and test systems are in good working order and that remedial actions are taken before patient results are reported.
- Actively participates in Performance Improvement initiatives, and utilizes the Performance Improvement process to improve services.
- Demonstrates a commitment to continue self-development in leadership skills and scientific knowledge by attending professional development programs and technical lectures.
- Ensures ongoing compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies, such as CAP, FDA, and the Joint Commission.
- Provides comprehensive orientation, training, and competency assessment to personnel for all techniques, methods, and instrumentation.
- Evaluates and implements new instruments, methodologies and tests using established Laboratory policies to enhance Laboratory services.
- Assists Director of Laboratory Services with operational and capital budget preparation, adheres to budget, and explains variances on a monthly basis.
- Prepares and conducts fair, comprehensive, and timely probationary period and annual performance evaluations, and recommends fair and consistent salary adjustments to the Director of Laboratory Services.
- Conducts regularly scheduled laboratory meetings and posts minutes within 2 weeks of meeting.
- Demonstrates proficient use of the Laboratory Information System.
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree strongly preferred
- 3-5 years of high complexity testing
- MT or MLT preferred
