Job Description

Position: Support Staff

Program: CalWORKs’ Stage 1 Program

Status: Non-exempt, Full time

Supervised by: Program Manager
Program Supervisor
Director of Operations, Child Care Services

General Purpose:
Support Staff is responsible to assist the Stage 1 staff with the CalWORKs Alternative Payment participants. Support Staff will provide administrative and clerical assistance to the Stage 1 staff, perform day-to-day operational task including, but not limited to; answering telephones, paper case filing, conducting follow-up telephone calls, faxing, mailing, data input in GEARS system and assist with the walk-in GAIN participants. Support Staff will perform their duties in compliance with the Funding Terms & Conditions of the Department of Public and Social Services contract.

Responsibilities:
  • Certify eligibility of CalWORKs participants and process enhanced referrals on GEARS, and process the respective documentation within 3 working days of receipt of the ST1-01 form, GEARS or telephone request for child care services
  • Provide counseling, child care, and supportive services referrals to CalWORKs participants
  • Follow-up with parent to ensure that the enhanced referral was given and child care arrangements were made
  • Answer incoming calls promptly with proper phone etiquette
  • Contact parent-selected provider and inform them about the child care process
  • Input all pertinent data on parent, children and provider in the MAOF database
  • Request provider documentation for licensed and licensed-exempt providers
  • Back-up the CalWORKs co-location staff as needed
  • Participate as a unit member in the evaluation and improvement of CalWORKs child care services to parents, providers, and the general public
  • Attends staff meetings, workshops, and conference, as assigned
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Other job related duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Experience working with parents receiving subsidized child care or social support services, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of existing L.A. County welfare system, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a must.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proper phone etiquette
  • Sensitivity and ability to work well with diverse ethnic, religious and cultural groups
  • Ability to work variable hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and/or 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. shift
  • Must have positive attitude with a desire to work with and promote the welfare of children and their families.
  • Sensitive to the needs of the program and the general public.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished verbally and in writing.
  • Negative T.B. test or chest X-rays (stated by law), negative drug and alcohol screen test.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative, diplomatic working relationships with co-workers and supervisors; work as part of a team and collaborate with department; and complete projects under tight deadlines even when there are completing requirements and changes in assignments.
