Job description
This position is responsible for supervising the production processing and packaging of food product on line(s) or systems with increased complexity; drives productivity and efficiency improvements on line(s) with advanced understanding of equipment and operational processes. Ability to manage multiple lines / systems with increasing complexity. Directs production packaging and processing on production lines to ensure company and USDA requirements are met. Supervises trains and develops subordinates.Serves as a mentor to other Supv Production. Leader of DMS & RCA processes; understands and proactively pursues RCAs with a broader understanding of system impacts and costs. Fluent in multiple manufacturing systems (e.g. SAP Kronos IQS etc).
Serve as an advanced user and trains others in use of systems. Demonstrates a strong understanding of equipment machines and operational processes and the impact of operational adjustments on assigned line(s). Coordinates with operations manager to review work schedules staffing requirements and production sequences to maximize productivity. Demonstrates KPI measures and takes proactive accountability for execution of improvement opportunities through a strong understanding of financial and non-financial impacts.
Identifies problems related to production processes and analyzes production reports to drive process improvement. Reviews and/or prepares and assures accuracy of various operational reports. Assures timely distribution of reports and budget information. Proactively engages in productivity projects; leads kaizen and other OPEX initiatives on line(s).
Drives engagement and applies critical thinking to drive results to completion and implements systems that provide sustainability of results. Serves as a change leader and proactively drives opportunities to move operational process improvements towards desired state. Responsible for safety housekeeping policy administration employee relations cost control and problem solving. Responsible for interviewing and hiring qualified employees following EEO and Affirmative Action guidelines.
Manages employee performance and skills development conducts performance appraisals and administers disciplinary action including employment terminations when necessary. Works closely with USDA representative on site to ensure all company state and federal requirements for food safety are met. Reviews and signs off on all Quality Assurance and HACCP documentation. Checks product quality usage waste product counts and weights to assure performance and attainment.
Maintains constant improvement in making quality products reducing costs and following good manufacturing practices (GMP). Participates in and supports Global Manufacturing Food Safety Initiative programs implementation and compliance. Responsible to conduct yourself and ensure your subordinates (if applicable) conduct themselves in a manner consistent with company mission values code of ethics policies and other standards of conduct. Adjusts daily work schedule as needed to meet production requirements.
May require flexibility in work schedule to provide cross-shift facility coverage or ability to focus on project-based work activities. Serves as shift authority and provides vacation coverage for operations manager.Education: High School diploma required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Years of Related Experience: 5 to 7 years related work experience preferably in food industry manufacturing or equivalent combination of education and experience with minimum of 3 years in supervision.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Strong personal computer skills including MicroSoft Office. SAP and other manufacturing system experience required. Advanced knowledge of robotics and equipment used in production. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise motivate and develop line employees and lead process improvement.
Strong communication and reasoning skills to provide a positive work environment. Embraces change and a culture of continuous improvement; serves as an informal team leader among peers. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate line results operational metrics and identified opportunities for line efficiency improvements.
Has ability to analyze operational reports and writes routine reports and correspondence. Strong mathematical and reasoning/critical thinking skills with the ability to analyze financial impacts related to line performance. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Knowledge of USDA FDA and SQF regulations.
Demonstrated capability to effectively navigate organizational systems and processes. Current employees must have satisfactory job performance.Education: High School diploma required.
