What we’re looking for:

Carlson Environmental Consultants, PC (CEC) is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the position of Survey CAD Technician I/II within our land surveying department.

The candidate must be highly motivated, eager to learn, with strong problem-solving skills. A responsible individual with a respectful and moral character is a requirement for this position.

Experience as a survey CAD technician reducing survey field data and drafting projects in Civil3D such as topographic, boundary, construction, and as-built surveys.

Full-time position, mainly working with principal surveyor in Florida and some with project surveyor in Tennessee.

Responsibilities for this position include (Survey Technician I):

  • Coordinates with Project Surveyor, Land Surveyors, and other employees regarding project scheduling, conflicts, milestones, and completion.
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in Civil3D, specifically working with survey data, drawing layers, point formats, field to finish codes, layer and points styles, data management, and surface modeling.
  • Performs in-process quality review of survey field activities, legal descriptions, maps, aerial photographs, calculations, and other diverse types of project deliverables.
  • Performs calculations to determine traverse closures, traverse adjustments, field note reductions, boundary analysis, sketch and descriptions, construction calculations, and area calculations utilizing Civil 3D and Trimble software.
  • Performs drafting of topographic, boundary, ALTA survey, construction, and as-built surveys.
  • Assists field crews with prep and calculations for survey work done in the field.
  • Anticipates roadblocks and provides recommendations for resolution to ensure strong accuracy of survey work.
  • Review and check work for quality control.
  • Work under direct supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Perform detailed property research from city, county and state records.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Preferred experience and qualifications (Survey Technician II):

  • All of the above listed responsibilities with adequate experience to perform the tasks.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Survey Technician I experience with 1 year or more experience preparing ALTA surveys, boundary, topographic, and/or record as-built surveys.
  • Review title documents and Table A (ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys) items and apply them to the survey.
  • Intermediate experience in Trimble Business Center (TBC) working with survey data, point creation and editing, reports, and other TBC tasks.

Education and Experience Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be able to be legally employed in the U.S.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word & Excel, and Google Earth
  • Preferred: Some education in Land Surveying, Engineering, or related field from an accredited program, or other relevant combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of survey equipment and software, and other essential equipment for field and office work.
  • Valid driver’s license and sufficient driving record.
  • Ability to work varying schedules, mainly Monday through Friday.
  • Although rare, ability to travel at times, including overnight.
  • Ability to sit at a computer and view computer screens most days, involving motor coordination with finger dexterity (such as keyboarding, machine operation, etc.), with occasional site visits as needed.
  • Successfully pass a pre-employment (post offer) drug screen, background check, and motor vehicle records check.

Will train on our methods and procedures.

Must have references.

Starting $25+/hr. based on experience (Survey Technician I or II).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
