Job description

Essential Functions

  • Assemble, disassemble and repair rigging, supporting structures, hoists, and pulling gear, using tools if required.
  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
  • Inspect rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Attach loads to rigging to provide support or prepare them for moving.
  • Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weight, size, and limitations.
  • Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using appropriate equipment and signals.
  • Tilt, dip, and turn suspended loads to maneuver over, under, and/or around obstacles.
  • Align, level, and anchor machinery.
  • Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support loads.
  • Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
  • Supply equipment to rig floors as requested, and provide assistance to roughnecks as needed.
  • Move pipes to and from trucks, using winches, motorized lifts, or by hand.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Ability to frequently lift and drag 40 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally lift from a tool box and carry a 35 pound hydraulic jack.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and drag 100 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently climb rig stairs up to height of 20 feet.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and utilize 3 lb. hammer.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and utilize 8 lb. sledge hammer.
  • Ability to walk at a steady pace for extended periods of time with intermittent breaks for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Ability to judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from you, or to judge the distance between you and an object.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs
  • Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down.
  • Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
  • Ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.
  • Ability to see details at a distance.
  • Ability to engage in active listening and learning — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Ability to attend and apply required training.
  • Ability to identify and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment as indicated by task.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
