SWIM INSTRUCTOR


MISSION

To provide members and non-members an opportunity to learn, improve and enjoy swimming and the aquatic environment by providing professional instruction to individuals and groups of all ages and ability levels. Ensure a positive learning experience for every student. Exhibit high energy, enthusiasm and a love of swimming when teaching. To get and keep members involved in aquatics programming and to build a lesson clientele through referrals. To assist the Aquatics Director in the overall coordination of the club’s aquatics programs, as requested.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Instruct all lessons and classes in a safe and professional manner, following the American Red Cross curriculum and guidelines as applicable
  • Be ready to start and end class exactly on time
  • Build and maintain an active schedule of both group and private lessons
  • Be alert and attentive to students throughout class; keep all students in sight at all times
  • Ensure that students comply with all pool rules
  • Be knowledgeable and comfortable in using all teaching aids and props; ensure that all equipment and supplies are properly stored after usage
  • Evaluate and record each student’s progress
  • For children, communicate progress to parents with recommendations for future class placement. Complete and present “report cards” to children at end of session
  • Be fully comfortable with using any of the club’s rescue or safety equipment
  • Be courteous to all pool users before, during and after swim lessons
  • Promote aquatic programs to all students
  • Attain and maintain required certifications in Water Safety Instruction and CPR.
  • Complete all required administrative work and telephone work by requested deadlines
  • Report any pool or aquatics equipment problems or needs to the Aquatics Director
  • Participate in ongoing instructor training provided by the club
  • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by the Aquatics Director


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualified candidates, with or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to:
  • Write, speak, read, hear and see
  • Pass the WSI and CPR certification courses
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods (on deck or in pool)
  • Work outdoors and exposed to sun for prolonged periods
  • Hold and support an adult or child in water
  • Project voice across a crowded, noisy pool, on a sustained basis
  • Set-up and take-down of light equipment
