Project Overview:

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Ocean Service (NOS) National Geodetic Survey (NGS) requires professional Information Technology services that encompass comprehensive Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) activities in support of agency’s products and services, system administration/help desk support, and Information Technology (IT) security support. Typical activities include, but are not limited to:, providing system admin support for Windows desktops and laptops and networks including, provisioning, hosting, monitoring, reporting, coordinating hardware maintenance where needed, and providing multi-tiered user/customer-level support, remote connectivity, operating system support, backups and archiving, support for day-to-day operations as well as new initiatives.


This position is a hybrid role: Remote 2 days per week & on-site 3 days per week. On-site location in Silver Spring, MD.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person and remote support for various field offices for end users performing problem analysis with application, hardware and network support.
  • In depth knowledge of Active Directory.
  • Build, patch, and test computers in a stand-alone environment before deploying to the production network
  • Manage and implement group policies for security policies, and organizational units using Active Directory.
  • Strong understanding of DHCP and DNS
  • Be familiar with Google Mail and Docs, Trellix (McAfee) ePO server, SCCM, BigFix console, Nessus scans and Powershell
  • Familiarity with GIS software is a plus, but not required.
  • Update and patch systems monthly in compliance to security vulnerabilities.
  • Configure and maintain wireless mobile devices, including but not limited to iPhones and iPads.
  • Install new software releases and system upgrades.
  • Maintain data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity.
  • Perform system backups and recovery.
  • Provide daily vulnerability scans with tritan on workstations and laptops within the scope.

  • 6 years of system admin experience
  • Strong knowledge of Windows 10
  • Active Directory
  • Group Policy
  • Software and hardware troubleshooting
  • iPhones
  • DHCP
  • Trellix (McAfee) ePO server and virus scan
  • Google Mail and Docs
  • MS Office
  • Adobe Acrobat
  • Familiar with DNS, Tectia, BigFix, Powershell, virtual machines
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • In order to meet the clearance requirements for this opportunity, candidates must be US Citizen and/or Current Green Card Holder.

  • Public Trust background investigations can take approximately four to eight weeks and requires fingerprinting.

  • The salary for this position is $50,000 - $75,000 annually
