Role Description

The platform we offer our customers is made up of hardware, both internally-developed and off-the-shelf, along with internally-developed software. The individual units consist of any combination of modems, routers, our proprietary Linux-powered edge controller, IP cameras, IP speakers, and a supporting wind or solar power source. Our customers rely on us to ensure that this hardware is capable of performing as expected and kept up to date with the latest security patches. As a Systems Integration Test Engineering Manager, you will lead a team that assists in the definition of internal quality control standards and the maintenance of our reliability programs. You will use your experience in quality control, integration, and creativity in tinkering to understand the capabilities and limits that various IoT devices have as well as the various 3rd party software services are available to solve real use cases for our customers. You will receive new product samples and perform a complete assessment of capabilities, strengths, and limitations. You will participate in communications with vendors and manufacturers to resolve any issues discovered during our certification and testing process. You will prepare documentation for, and collaborate with many departments; ensuring they can be successful at integrating certified hardware and software with our platform. In addition to certifying new hardware, you will also be responsible for testing new firmware releases for existing products and maintaining that documentation. As a subject-matter expert in all certified hardware and software, you will be a company-wide resource, helping troubleshoot newly discovered issues. As a manager, you will mentor your team members to consistently strive to improve their skills in technical aptitude, relationship building, and business acumen.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required:

  • Connect network hardware such as modems, routers, and network cameras to a private network and manipulate their configuration via a GUI or CLI. Read API documentation and perform tests to verify functionality and compatibility with our services.
  • Troubleshoot basic electrical issues including the use of a DC bench power supply, a multimeter, and a POE injector.
  • Organize a repository of firmware and configuration files so your coworkers can identify which are approved for deployment.
  • Communicate well via email, telephone, and in person with vendors and coworkers (both technical and non-technical).
  • Maintain internal documentation on testing and configuration procedures.
  • Have the ability to learn new technologies quickly and turn around and teach others how to use the new technologies.
  • Occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
  • At least 2 years experience managing and mentoring teams.

Preferred:

  • Use a packet analyzer such as Wireshark to discover undocumented API commands.
  • Willingness to travel a few times each year to consult during critical installations and meetings with high-level clients.
  • Experience working on a Scrum team.

Bonus:

  • Automate certification and configuration processes using Python and/or AWS Lambda.

Who Will You Work With

You will work with third-party manufacturers, collaborating with their Sales Engineers, Software Developers, and Support Staff to ensure new and existing products meet our needs. As a subject-matter expert, you will consult with our internal Software Developers, Technical Support, Mechanical/Electrical Engineers, Assembly, and Sales teams. You will report to the Network Systems Integrations Manager.
