POSITION SUMMARY

Analyzes short and long range system plans for the Hoosier Energy power system that emphasizes economy, reliability and compatibility. Acts as Hoosier Energy’s interface with member system staff in the coordination of system plans and studies. Coordinates with interconnected utilities, MISO and regional reliability organizations. Assures compliance with Hoosier Energy policies and procedures, MISO business practices, NERC/RRO requirements and other industry standards and successfully mitigates constraining issues. Ensures communication and collaboration within and between departments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyzes current system data and produces plans for future power systems expansion. Ensures adequate system capacity, service reliability and optimal economy for Hoosier Energy and Member Systems.
  • Monitors transmission interconnections, transmission facilities and delivery points to anticipate future needs. Identifies appropriate performance parameters that suggest system load growth and reliability trends for Hoosier Energy and Member Systems. Uses monitoring and performance parameters to develop a facility load forecast.
  • Performs electrical power system studies in the areas of power flow, stability and related topics utilizing transmission planning software (e.g. PSSE, PowerWorld). Facilitates planning of system additions, modifications and improvements with interconnected utilities.
  • Coordinates facility planning with regional transmission organizations. Provides regional reliability organizations with required reliability information on existing and future facilities. Provides power flow studies, facilities ratings, contingency plans and other related reliability analysis as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Formulates and files evidence to demonstrate and prove compliance; identify non-compliance; and develop mitigation plans when not in compliance. Represents Hoosier Energy as the Subject Matter Expert during NERC/RRO audits. Develops and maintains policies and procedures as needed.
  • Participates in key Hoosier Energy interdepartmental groups and committees to address modeling, forecasting and distributed energy resource projects, among other topics. Ensures continuity of committee direction and relevant information communication. Provides leadership, develops and maintains policies and procedures and provides technical expertise and guidance as needed.
  • Facilitates interconnection studies and analysis specifically focusing on DER and impacts to both Hoosier Energy and Member Systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent minimum
  • PE license preferred

Experience:

  • 5 years’ of electrical utility experience in system planning is preferred
