Position Summary
:

Bio-Techne is seeking a highly motivated hands-on Systems Engineer that will report into the Namocell Engineering group. The Systems Engineer will focus on all system level engineering activities for both new and existing products. They will also take some responsibilities as an electrical design engineer within the group.


Key Responsibilities
:

  • Lead instrument development, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop the system of interest and manage it from concept to end-of-life
  • Responsible for design concept generation, system architecture development, requirements definition and analysis, requirements and configuration management, risk management, reliability, system integration and characterization, verification and validation
  • Work closely with various functional groups to translate customer requirements into top-level system requirements, allocate/decompose system requirements to subsystem specifications, define and resolve interfaces and working parameters for the optimal hardware/software/reagent performance
  • Identify opportunities for existing product enhancements that can aid in system performance improvement and failure and root cause analysis

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • BS/MS degree in the relevant field of study
  • 3+ years of experience in product development, preferably for medical device/in vitro diagnostics systems
  • Hands on experience with prototype & alpha phases of complex instrument product development cycle
  • Experience with development and systems integration of opto-mechanical instruments that requires multi-engineering disciplines is preferred
  • Ability to do troubleshooting from system level down to low levels
  • Experience with developing various fixtures for instrument production
  • Effective communication across functional teams such as marketing, quality, manufacturing, and field support teams
  • Eagerness to support manufacturing and field
  • Some experience in project management
  • Hand-on skills/experiences in at least two of the following is a plus
  • Software/Firmware/FPGA programming
  • Mechanical design in SolidWorks
  • Fluid dynamics, microfluidics, and thermo-dynamics
  • Optical/laser simulations
  • Electrical design (schematic and layout)
