Teacher – English

Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction and other educational services to hospitalized adolescents in order to help them maintain or improve their academic performance levels/standing. Additionally, the teachers help the adolescent client/s make a smooth post-discharge transition back into their home school setting.
Essential Job Duties:
  • Prepare and implement sequential English Curriculum for all students based upon the students past records and/or the Individual Education Plan developed by the student’s IEP Team
  • Participates in Parent/Teacher conferences and IEP meetings as scheduled.
  • Knows and can explain rules/regulations of the clinical program and patient handbook to the residents.
  • Interact therapeutically with the residents in one-to-one, community, group and classroom situations. Reacts therapeutically in a crisis situation.
  • Has a basic understanding of Common Psychiatric Diagnoses. Can recognize behaviors associates with and uses proper intervention techniques for Common Psychiatric Diagnoses.
  • Has ability to set limits in a kind and firm manner. Demonstrates knowledge of outlined consequences of behavior exhibited by patient. Follows and implements behavior protocol set for school.

Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related fields.
  • Experience: Minimum of two (2) years in Special Education preferred
  • License/Certification: Current, State of Florida Teaching Certificate in one or more of the following areas:
          • Secondary Education: Math, Science, English, Social Studies.
          • Exceptional Student Education (ESE)
  • Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates knowledge of curriculum. Demonstrates classroom management skills.
  • Physical Requirements: Work involves considerable sitting, standing, walking, reaching with frequent lifting and carrying objects up to 25 lbs.
