Your day.



As a Remote Lead Unix Administrator, you need to know how to:



Works independently and leads the evaluation, design, testing, implementation, upgrade, support, maintenance, documentation and security of the assigned system environments. Serves as the initial point of escalation for team members and escalates issues to management as needed.



  • Provides direction and coordination of task assignments for the team. Develops plans, schedules projects and monitors progress. Trains and mentors new associates. Validates other administrators’ projects and work for completion and accuracy. Provides constructive feedback and solutions to management for continuous improvement of the team.
  • Maintains a solid working knowledge of the various systems in the SCLHS environment in addition to the backup software and appliances as demonstrated through participation in design, planning, implementation, maintenance and documentation of Information Systems Technologies to support 24X7 operations.
  • Assists management in providing justification for major upgrades and new technologies to include software/hardware costs, training needs, man hours, disaster recovery plans, and additional support needed; oversees the team in developing, maintaining and reviewing complete system documentation at least annually.
  • Assists management in establishing system baseline; analysis, monitoring and documentation of processing loads, event logs and drive capacities in a manner (daily, weekly, monthly) as dictated by each system's role. Utilizes software and IT industry standards to analyze system performance and capacity to meet organizational expectations. Makes recommendations for improvement to management.
  • Develops, implements and maintains disaster recovery capabilities in accordance with IT industry standards and organizational needs. Assists in developing, reviewing, testing, and documenting effective backup and restoration methodologies.
  • Coordinates and manages vendor relationships to ensure work is performed to SCLHS standards including system security, delivery, installation, safety, specifications and timeframes.
  • Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Strong project management skills and good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Maintains a solid working knowledge of the various Unix operating systems in addition to the Veritas Netbackup software and appliances.
  • Effective customer service skills required.
  • Regular attendance to perform work on site during regularly scheduled business hours or scheduled shifts is required
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends is required for identified positions

Required:



  • Three (3) years experience leading the systems management of large scale, diverse Unix environments required. Experience with AIX, LINUX (RHEL).

Preferred:


  • Five (5) years experience with IBM PowerHA, IBM Logical Partitions (LPARs), IBM Live Partition Mobility (LPM), IBM Virtual I/O Server (VIOS) and Solaris strongly preferred. Experience with disaster recovery. Experience with Veritas NetBackup Enterprise. Shell scripting experience. Working knowledge of network connectivity and operation. Familiarity with VMware environments. Experience with SAN and NAS storage solutions. Healthcare experience desired, in particular with Epic and Lawson software.
