Job description
The Tear Down Technician will verify that incoming and in-process material meets Tesla Motors drawings and specifications. He/She is responsible for the inspection of material, the coordination of MRB activities, including data input, reporting, and logistics associated with material dispositions. This person will also administer the calibration system ensuring that measuring and test equipment is within its calibration due date. The Tear Down Technician will work closely with Process Engineering to provide reports, charts, graphs etc. to monitor and improve product quality. The successful candidate must have the ability to meet tight deadlines, have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be detail oriented, and have the ability to work independently. He/she must establish and maintain a professional working relationship with line supervisors, operators, and engineering teams.
What You’ll Do- Conducts destructive tests per control plan
- Measure / document results of destructive tests (examples: thickness measurements, density measurements, resistance measurements, leak testing).
- Analyzes variety of effective joining methods:
- Spot welds, SPRs, Laser welds, Fastening Joints, adhesive bonding.
- Assists in the process design and tooling improvements - comfortable in suggesting and implementing new ideas that improve quality, reduce cost, support production work environment.
- Completes physical work including but not limited to pushing, pulling, gripping, twisting, reaching, and lifting objects up to 40 lbs.
- Uses wide variety of tools to tear down assemblies including but not limited to angle grinders, reciprocating saws, air chisels, pry bars, and plasma cutters.
- Completes minor repairs of tools and equipment and takes ownership of ensuring major repairs get completed
- Compiles daily pass down of status/results
- 3 - 5 years' experience in a Manufacturing Quality Control environment.
- Previous mechanical inspection background with ability to use basic and precision measurement tools (FARO, CMM, calipers, micrometers, thread gauges etc.) preferred.
- The candidate should have hands-on experience and proven track record in production in any high quality cutting edge products.
- Demonstrated ability to perform standardized work process and defined work instructions.
- MS Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) experience.
- Experience in a team oriented production environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and people skills, comfortable presenting ideas and issues to peer groups and leaders.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2000 or TS16924 a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings.
