Tesla Inc. is seeking a Technical Editor to join our team in Palo Alto, CA. You will be the conduit between a rapidly growing global service team and the engineering teams who diagnose and design our products. By using in-house tools, collaborating with engineers from design, service, new product introduction, and working collaboratively with diagnostics, training, technical operations, you will directly contribute to Tesla’s ability to service and maintain a rapidly growing fleet of critical products – products like Megapack, Powerpack, Supercharger, and Solar Roof, each of which plays a critical role in our path to a sustainable future. Our Technical Editors:
Partner with engineering teams to create and update diagnostic information and procedures contained in the diagnostics database for use by non-engineers.- Collaborate with various engineering and quality teams to gather technical information.
- Understand technical problems and communicate them effectively to non-technical people.
- Validate information for accuracy and use a routing and review process for document approval.
- Edit content according to a style guide and enforce organization standards.
- Improve editorial and visual standards for documentation and recommend new designs, layouts, and formatting as needed.
- Manage tasks and information flow using collaboration software (such as JIRA, SharePoint, and custom databases).

Desired Skills
Bachelors in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Technical / Professional Writing, Journalism, Communications, or relevant working experience.- 1-3 years working experience in related field.
- Ability to edit and create documentation that is accurate, complete, clear, specific, and as concise as possible.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to peers, people from different parts of the organization, and non-technical people.
- Can extract and comprehend system operation from typical engineering documentation from both a software and mechanical perspective (e.g. schematics and subsystem specification documents).
- High level of interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong capacity for both logical and creative thinking.
- Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and evaluate priorities.
- Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with HTML, XML, DITA, Markdown, Git, SQL, and/or Python is a plus.
