Job Description:

At CoBank, Technical Training Specialist creates, develops, maintains, and conducts technical training content and courses in conjunction with the HR training department and business leaders for internal associates. Partners in the implementation of the training strategy and track and assess its progress and outcomes. Works closely with leadership to identify and assess future and current training needs for the department, leveraging job and skills analysis. Designs and delivers new hire technical training and on-boarding programs, refresher trainings, and additional trainings as needed. Manages relationships with training vendors and promotes training programs internally.


Essential Duties:

  • Designs and delivers a variety of soft-skill and technical training programs by working with outside vendors and internal stakeholders to develop solutions. Works with vendor and internal stakeholders to develop digital training modules/tools, such as computer based trainings, videos, infographics, etc. Manages relationships with training vendors.
  • Responsible to keep current the soft skill and technical training programs.
  • Works with business leaders across the divisions to assess the teams daily work flows and processes to learn how to support their business.
  • Manage and lead meetings with leadership before preparing course materials to ensure a detailed understanding of training subjects and processes
  • Works with all staff in respective teams to identify training gaps and what solutions will be needed to assist training for new and existing associates.
  • Designs, delivers and manages the associate onboarding for new hires and transfers and provides a training plan to each associate during onboarding with various checkpoints throughout.
  • Provides training assistance as new processes are established or changes to current processes are made.
  • Responsible for managing the review of existing procedures and job aids as well as managing and completing new ones.
  • Administers training programs via CoBank’s learning management system.
  • Responsible for managing our associates skills and proficiency matrix to support our understanding of capacity by skillset and helps identify targeted upskilling opportunities.
  • Create opportunities for cross training within departments and across departments to ensure employees can support different teams during high volume periods.


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three (3) years’ experience in instructional design and classroom training

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with adult learning methodology. Instructional experience in a group business setting
  • Experience with computer based training development systems preferred. Working knowledge of Go To Meeting or Webex technology
  • Experience analyzing company needs, lesson planning, development and implementation
  • Extensive knowledge teaching theory for creating effective instructional materials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and advanced presentation skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to gain the trust and respect of executive leadership, management and associates.
  • Demonstrated skill in building and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of executives, management, associates, and outside parties.
  • Strong understanding of business goals and standards for customer service
  • Experience developing yearly training plans and materials for all departments throughout the company
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple training initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent research, judgement, strategic thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Continually research methods and techniques in workplace training and remain up-to-date on developments within the industry and competitors
  • Proven ability to operate with a high degree of integrity, urgency and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic, team-oriented and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) especially SharePoint, and other applicable business software applications.
  • Works onsite or remotely with associates and stakeholders

Compensation Information

  • Estimated Base Salary Range: $80,000-$110,000
  • Target short-term incentive opportunity:15%
