The Cyber Security Operations group resides within the central Information Technology Division. We have been charged with protecting Brookhaven National Laboratory’s cyber assets, with a focus on detection and prevention.

• 
  Respond to end user requests, including service desk tickets, emails and phone calls to the cyber hotline. Escalate to engineers as needed.
• Review vulnerability data and assisting personnel with remediation
• Perform routine maintenance of security systems/appliances
• Monitor security consoles and respond to alerts
• Assist with incident response and investigations
• Analyze a chain of events and applies technical knowledge following established procedures
• Operate effectively as part of a larger team and in managing own work. Is assigned tasks of limited duration and complexity.

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalency- Two (2) years’ experience for every one (1) year of education
• One (1) year experience in network/desktop/systems administration
• Understanding of networking, firewalls, and access control lists
• Working knowledge of Linux or Microsoft Windows
• The possession of or the ability to obtain DOE Q-level clearance
• Rotational off-hours support and the ability to be on-site within two (2) hours is required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience working with multiple operating systems
• Experience working with virtualization technologies
• Working knowledge of Perl, PHP, Python, or other shell scripting
• Understanding of Microsoft Windows Group Policy
