Organizational Overview
The Cyber Security Operations group resides within the central Information Technology Division. We have been charged with protecting Brookhaven National Laboratory’s cyber assets, with a focus on detection and prevention.
Position Description
Respond to end user requests, including service desk tickets, emails and phone calls to the cyber hotline. Escalate to engineers as needed.- Review vulnerability data and assisting personnel with remediation
- Perform routine maintenance of security systems/appliances
- Monitor security consoles and respond to alerts
- Assist with incident response and investigations
- Analyze a chain of events and applies technical knowledge following established procedures
- Operate effectively as part of a larger team and in managing own work. Is assigned tasks of limited duration and complexity.
Position Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline or equivalency- Two (2) years’ experience for every one (1) year of education
- One (1) year experience in network/desktop/systems administration
- Understanding of networking, firewalls, and access control lists
- Working knowledge of Linux or Microsoft Windows
- The possession of or the ability to obtain DOE Q-level clearance
- Rotational off-hours support and the ability to be on-site within two (2) hours is required
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience working with multiple operating systems
- Experience working with virtualization technologies
- Working knowledge of Perl, PHP, Python, or other shell scripting
- Understanding of Microsoft Windows Group Policy

To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
