This position will assist in the installation of fiber optic cable for various telecommunication projects.

Essential Functions:

This position will assist in the installation of fiber optic cable for various telecommunication projects.

Roles and Responsibilities:

· Provides mid-level laborer functions including hand digging with a shovel, setting up traffic control, entry level equipment operations, placing fiber, loading materials, etc. on various safety sensitive utility construction sites.

· Proficient with utility print and map reading

· Supports the setup and shut down of utility construction projects including traffic control in various conditions including highways, side streets, parking lots, downtown locations, etc.

· Trains alongside experience construction crews learning fiber installation, print reading, equipment operations, OSHA requirements, etc.

· Loads and unloads materials and equipment in from vehicles at construction yards and jobsites

· Assists in identifying hazards by utilizing the pre-task process.

· All phases of underground construction include but are not limited to: Loading, driving, delivery, digging, removal and placement of various types, sizes and weight of construction materials and equipment.

· Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.

· Perform general construction work under direction of Foreman/Supervisor

· Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies.

Success Factors:

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.

• Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift

• Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling

• Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions

• Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers

• Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy

• English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports

• Willingness and ability to learn additional skills

Experience and Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent desired

• Experience working with underground utilities desired

• CDL A is a plus

• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:

• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.

• Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Pay: $17.00 - $22.00 per hour

• Utility Laboring: 1 year (Preferred)
