Texas Mutual Insurance (TXM) is Texas' leading provider of workers’ compensation. The organization is made up of roughly 700-800 individuals, 114 falling underneath the technology division. The technology teams currently follow Agile/Scrum methodology and are broken up into 18 different Kanban teams. They call projects initiatives because they've adopted an Agile way of thinking. There are also already 5 teams in the testing space as well.

They are currently hiring for a Senior Test Engineer that will support TXM external products online. As a result of the additional needs, TXM just created a new team to handle the foundational needs when it comes to testing. Right now, a lot of the initiatives rely on shared components (login, enter, gateway to apps, etc.), but some of the products teams are spending a lot of time on the foundational pieces, so TXM created a team that can build the foundation portions they can hand off to others.

This Test Engineer will support an external facing application so someone with web-browser based testing would be helpful because it's more about building a platform for the team to use versus a product ! This team doesn’t work as much with Process Analysts or Product Owners, but this team will have a tech dev teammates.

There are 21 Test Engineers spread across the teams, including 5 automation engineers who are supporting the test framework and knowledge transfer. But this Test Engineer will support recommending and documenting Quality standards, procedures, and guidelines.

This Senior Test Engineer they are wanting to bring on will be an individual contributor but needs to hit the ground running when it comes to manual and automated testing. This person will be responsible for the automation of this team. The developers will help, but this Test Engineer will be doing the automation guiding the direction of the developers as an SME on the quality/testing piece and articulated what/when should things be automated. They will lead the development and executes test cases, scenarios, plans, builds and maintains automated test suites.

When it comes to technology, they are using BDD based Karate DSL, so someone who has worked with BDD user stories and automated acceptance testing; if they don’t have Karate, it'll be important that they know Selenium/Java/Cucumber/Gherkin to help them pick up Karate. Also someone that knows JavaScript, TypeScript, and Postman.

Some of the day to day will include:

• Plan testing activities in conjunction with development activities, including but not limited to functional requirements, non-functional requirements, integrations, and regression tests
• Utilize SDLC processes, Enterprise Architecture guidelines, and testing methodologies to improve product quality and to facilitate consistency across teams
• Utilize testing framework and tools to plan and estimate for new automated tests, execute automated tests, and ensure test automation development is included in the definition of done
• Implement automated test suites supporting both quality and functionality of products and services, including but not limited to creating, maintaining, executing, and decommissioning of test scripts each release cycle
• Identify, analyze, and document defects, while providing sufficient explanation of defects and impacts, working across teams as necessary for resolution
• Generate reports and documentation for all testing activities, results, and quality metrics, then communicating status to stakeholders
• Learn new technologies and tools related to testing capabilities, as well as requirements for new products, enhancements, and existing functionality
• Collaborate with project teams by providing quality assurance expertise and assistance to help successfully plan, develop, test, and implement quality products
• Use writing skills to create and maintain technical documentation
• Use technical skills and business knowledge to maintain testing environments
• Assist with user acceptance testing technical set up and data set development, in support of the process analyst and team
• Mentor and train other IT staff as assigned

• Performance and Load testing; they’ve been playing around in that space the last few years and distributed testing with JMeter
• Accessibility Tools are relatively new; they’re using Deque Systems
• The automation team is working with DevOps using Containers and doing testing with that so someone with CI/CD would be very nice to have
• Insurance or Finance experience is preferable
