Under the general supervision of the Desk Sergeant or designee, performs a variety of semi-skilled clerical and administrative work by providing services at the impound (tow) lot requiring moderate responsibility and independent judgment.

As an employee of Sarpy County, you receive regular pay for the services you provide. The other part of your total compensation is the value of the benefits (i.e. insurance and retirement) that Sarpy County makes available to you and, if applicable, your family. With a starting compensation of $19.15 per hour, the potential annual value of these benefits is $28,392.35.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Respond by phone and in person to inquiries of customers whose vehicles have been impounded; provide information to customers to facilitate and expedite return, auction or disposal of vehicle; direct callers to appropriate personnel.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, supervisors, County employees, elected officials, attorneys, law enforcement, judges, other agencies, and the general public.
Process the titling of abandoned vehicles in accordance with state requirements.
Assign impound numbers to property impounded in the facility to ensure proper identification and relocation.
Develop and maintain computerized files for the impound lot.
Record driver tow tickets; update, monitor, and maintain inventory sheets and vehicle identification numbers (VINs) to identify vehicles and property with all records.
Access Criminal Justice databases (e.g. National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system) to check for stolen vehicles.
Review documents presented for accuracy and completeness, informing customer if additional information or documents are required.
Verify impound numbers and VINs match customer receipts before release of vehicle; verify VINs match bills of sale before release of auctioned vehicles; collect cash, make change and issue receipts.
Reconcile each day’s receipts by totaling all checks and cash received, verify tickets and drawer totals and balance at day’s end.
Print reports containing impounded and released vehicle information for the Sheriff’s Office.
Receive customer complaints and forward to appropriate person(s).
Cooperate with County, State, and Federal law enforcement officers as appropriate where activities of the Sheriff’s Office are involved.
Operate County vehicles in the performance of essential job functions.
Report to work with regular, predictable, and consistent attendance.
Peripheral Duties
Perform other related duties as directed and assigned.
Perform perimeter checks on the facility grounds for evidence of break-in or vandalism to County property.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
Additional post-secondary education in business or bookkeeping preferred.
Two (2) years of customer service experience required.
One (1) year experience handling money and processing credit card transactions with the public required.
Special Requirements
Must be bondable.
Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Drivers’ License, as well as meet eligibility requirements of “acceptable driver standards” as defined by the County.
Must have ability to be granted and be able to maintain access to FBI’S National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system.
Must successfully pass extensive background checks, including but not limited to criminal history records check.

Ability to communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing
Ability to operate equipment including, but not limited to, computer and specialized software, cash register, calculator, multiline phone, typewriter, printer, scanner, copier, fax, cash register, calculator, law enforcement radio

While performing this job, the employee is frequently required to sit/remain stationary, talk/hear, and operate/manipulate equipment using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand/be erect, walk/move about, bend, balance, stoop, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb stairs. The employee must occasionally lift, maneuver, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Required sensory abilities include vision and hearing. Visual abilities, correctable to normal ranges include close, distance, and color vision as well as depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Communication abilities include the ability to talk (verbal exchange) and hear within normal ranges.
At times the work is performed indoors in an office setting. Job duties are also performed outdoors with a considerable amount of physical activity. The employee must have the ability to transport himself or herself to and from various locations throughout the county and within the Sheriff’s Office and the County Courthouse.
The incumbent is required to work in all climatic conditions from extreme heat to extreme cold including all forms of precipitation. The incumbent would be required to walk/traverse/move about uneven terrain, including but not limited to dirt, gravel, grass, mud, and snow.The incumbent works near moving mechanical parts.
Work hours may include days, evenings, weekends, call-ins, and holidays. Work may be fast-paced when dealing with multiple priorities and time constraints. The noise level is typically moderate.
