Job Description Monitors transfusion service and blood bank operations to ensure safe, efficient, and quality performance standards for patients, visitors, and employees. Works in collaboration with QA/Education/Accreditation and Transfusion Managers to maintain a quality program to ensure the provision of quality in all aspects of care and service. Actively promotes a lean work culture by performing group leader duties to encourage consistent use of lean principles and processes, including continually seeking work process improvements. Works effectively with others to meet patient needs.

Experience
  • 5 years of experience in transfusion service
  • Technical expertise and clinical knowledge of all procedures within transfusion service and blood banks
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB)
  • Experience in peer inspection for College of American Pathologists and/or involvement in a formal quality assurance committee
  • Experience as a preceptor (trainer)
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or equivalent
Certification Summary
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent medical technologist
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Eligible for supervisor classification by the Georgia Department of Human Resources
  • Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills as well as leadership abilities
  • Strives for adult-adult relationships with staff and provides support that promotes staff engagement, success, and ownership of own morale and interactions with positive outlook to other staff
  • Invites staff to hold one another accountable to achieve excellent patient care
Job Responsibilities
1.Demonstrates expert technical and clinical knowledge in transfusion service and blood bank by recognizing patient care and employee performance quality issues and initiating performance improvement processes.
2.Interacts with other healthcare workers to provide information and identify, develop, implement, assess, and report strategies that result in improved departmental quality.
3.Assists with maintaining department regulatory accreditation.
4.Assists in developing and writing standard operating procedures related to quality.
5.Provides education and training in quality system theory and application.
6.Gathers, analyzes, and reports data for transfusion service and blood bank performance measures.
7.Partners with laboratory leadership team and educators for continuous assessment and improvement with Principle Investigator compliance activities/issues.
8.Recognizes, monitors, and analyzes trends in laboratory activities for the purpose of improving process flow and/or increasing patient and employee satisfaction.
9.Promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes to achieve quality and cost objectives.
10.Facilitates implementation of lean process improvement ideas.
11.Performs standard work, metric reviews, audits, and gemba walks.
12.Serves as facilitator to provide guidance for quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
13.Recognizes necessity of taking ownership of own motivation, morale, performance, and professional development.
14.Strives for behavior consistent with being committed to the lab’s and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's mission, goals, and values.
