Summary

Through support and guidance of the Save the Children Site Coordinator and with technical assistance from the Save the Children Program Specialist, the Tutor will implement various aspects of the Literacy and Healthy Choices program components on an as needed basis and maintain good general order and conduct among the children participating in the program.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

  • On an approximate 1:20 ratio of staff to children, initiate and supervise activities of children participating in the afterschool program, ensuring compliance with Save the Children, School, and Grant guidelines and standards. Guide and coordinate the implementation and monitoring of the program. (70%)
  • Assist the Save the Children Site Coordinator in maintaining children’s files and following up with various administrative needs of the afterschool literacy program. (10%)
  • Attend training session(s) as directed by Program Specialist, Program Manager and Save the Children. (10%)
  • Complete and submit weekly timesheets through the online timesheet system. Other duties as assigned by Program Specialist and/or Program Manager. (10%)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years' relevant work experience
  • High School or Technical/Vocational Degree
  • Learned knowledge and skills to support variety of routine tasks requiring some degree of difficulty
  • Ability to pass the Instructional Assistant/Para-Educator exam
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated capacity to be a team player
  • Basic comfort level with computers, the internet and software such as MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to understand and follow the instructions of supervisors
  • Ability to work amiably but firmly with children
  • Ability to learn/practice problem solving techniques to deal with child conflicts
  • Must possess effective written and oral communication skills to follow all Save the Children Safeguarding practices and policies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Courses in education, psychology and child growth and development and previous experience working with and supervising kindergarten through 6th grade children preferred
  • Previous experience supporting staff to successfully collaborate as a team
