The Administrative Solutions Group exists to analyze, design, implement, maintain, and support business processes, tools, and users of Financial Services, Purchasing and Travel, and Human Resource Services at BYU. This team is primarily a service-oriented group, partnering with these departments to provide needed applications for campus usage. This position is responsible to design, develop, test, and maintain user interfaces for these applications

Work with stakeholder and developers to plan, document, develop, and maintain applications, and websites. Keep up to date with industry standards and best practices for user experience and web accessibility.

Essential Functions

Manage Product Development

  • Work with stakeholders and developers in the creating, refining, and maintaining project documentation for project specification, design, workflow, and timelines.
  • Liaise between stakeholders, developers, and end users.
  • Write and oversee QA and user testing through various stages of the project.
  • Mentor student employees on project workflows and front-end development.
  • Lead development team in an Agile framework.

Develop UI/UX for Applications

  • Provide input, feedback, and advice on various projects across campus as a UI/UX expert.
  • Participate in the campus web community committee and groups to help education campus on design principles, available tools and resources relating to web development.

Administer and support systems

  • Build functional prototypes that can be used by customers and developers.
  • Lead development team as they build the UI of applications to ensure adherence to best practices and application of BYU identity.
  • Training as requested by customers on developed applications and SaaS solutions.
  • Training for administrative users of applications so that they can support campus customers

Maintain Applications

  • Monitor production applications to ensure they are operating as designed and consistent with customer expectations.
  • Develop bug fixes necessary to ensure proper operations.

Education/Experience

Minimum education/experience required:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years industry experience in graphic design, computer science or equivalent experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred:

  • Minimum required 6 years of relevant experience in UI/UX Design.
  • Minimum required 1 year of relevant experience in project management.

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

  • Agile Certification or equivalent experience.
  • UI/UX Certification or equivalent experience
  • Advanced skills in graphic/web design using Adobe and other relevant design and prototyping applications.
  • Create high-fidelity wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and prototypes to effectively communicate interaction and design ideas based on user research, business requirements, customer feedback, and user study findings.
  • Keep up to date with principles and best practices in UI/UX Design and Web Accessibility Guidelines.
  • Experience implementing and executing on all phases related to whiteboard sessions to help conceptualize designs, demonstrating overall UX design, translation of user feedback and business requirements into design solutions, and visual presentations and UI designs through UX principles.
  • Ability to effectively mentor student employees.
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript; understanding of web programing (PHP, SQL, Apache)
  • Ability to work with developers to optimize front-end development.
  • Experience writing and conducting various usability testing mythologies; ability to translate testing to product improvements.
  • Effectively work with customers in developing applications to learn customers business processes and discover the needs of the clients.
  • Interpersonal skills that support creative production in a team environment. (Creative, flexible, open to constructive criticism, take and give direction well.)
  • Ability to work in multiple positions of an Agile framework to effectively launch products within time and resource constraints.
  • Experience writing project documentation (Function Spec doc, Design doc, User stories, Dev stories, workflow diagrams)
  • Experience taking user requirements and broad, conceptual ideas, and turn them into actionable items for developers in the form of user stories and dev stories.
  • Ability to run CMS administration for example Brightspot.

Approximate Starting Salary: $79,500 to $103,500 (DOQ)
