Job description

UMKC School of Law is looking for a qualified Library Information Assistant to join our team. Under the supervision of the Circulation and Operations Librarian and/or other departmental staff, the employee will be responsible with assisting the Librarians, faculty, staff and students in basic reference, circulation, information, and other basic library services in person and by telephone

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Filing loose-leafs, pocket parts and supplements
  • Robot item transfers that will involve creating/searching/and editing data records according to library standards,
  • Applying call numbers, barcodes, labels etc. as needed
  • Book shelving.
  • Tracks library statistics including titles and dates of books shelved daily and the title and date of loose-leafs, pocket parts and supplements filed daily. Position
  • Recycles old volumes
  • Conducts stacks maintenance which includes, but not limited to shifting, straightening, shelf reading, and dusting,
  • Logs the activity with name and date of when such actions were completed,
  • Participates in library projects including/but not limited to large inventories, library events and creation/takedown of exhibits.
  • Supports overall cleanliness of the library by walking through library stacks and student areas daily straightening chairs, tidying up and throwing away random trash.

Additionally, the employee may also be asked to support service desk coverage, including check in/check out procedures, processing holds, assisting students with technical issues such as printing and scanning, directing reference questions to their appropriate avenue, and directing clients to the Self-Help Clinic when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Position is part time, non-benefit eligible, and non-exempt.

Salary

Up to $16.00 per hour; commensurate with experience/qualifications.
