Overview

The Urban Outfitters Associate Designer – Menswear contributes to the creation of the seasonal assortment for a category of Urban Outfitters owned brands in collaboration with and under the direction of the Senior Designer.

Responsibilities

• Actively participates, contributes, and assists Senior Designer in creating seasonal assortment for a category of Urban Outfitters owned brands.
• Actively seeks understanding of the UO customer and uses this knowledge to inform decision making within design. Assists in interpretating seasonal fashion direction, assortment opportunities, and merchandise trends for area.
• Maintains awareness of trend, shares research and inspiration (blogs, magazines, retail experience, street- style and vintage exploration as it relates to the UO customer)
• Develop and demonstrate strong understanding of target market demands, customer, brand objectives and brand design aesthetic.
• Manages development and execution of trim packages and completes all technical callouts.
• Sets up spec sheets for all bodies. Communicates fit and construction details to Technical Design department.
• Prepares presentation materials for seasonal benchmark meetings such as Sketch review, Finalization, and Print + Color Day.
• Organizes and prepares all incoming samples to present at both pre-proto and Finalization meetings; make sure submits are matching to standard. Tracks, manages and organizes department.
• Ensures product info is complete and accurate in Tradestone, sketch boards, linesheets, and other design documents.
• Monitors developments, anticipates problems, and initiates solutions in a timely manner to minimize problems or delays
• Builds and sustains positive collaborative relationships with multi level cross-functional partners.

Skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Mocking, draping, sewing and other technical skills related to garment making.
• Knowledge of fabric and trims, wash and dye treatments and techniques.
• Excellent ability to sketch design ideas accurately and emotionally / has a good sense of proportion and can accurately illustrate details
• Ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders throughout the organization and understanding of when and how to manage up effectively.
• Drive to build efficiency.

Qualifications

• 3+ Years Experience working in a fast paced and trend driven design environment preferred.
• Design portfolio demonstrating aesthetic and skills that aligned with Urban Outfitters brands.
• Working proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, sample management and design programs
• Strong understanding of the Urban Outfitters brands, customers and aesthetics
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of garment construction and design techniques
• Ability to respond to business objectives with creative, innovative, and cost-effective design solutions
• Ability to research and report on industry trend direction, color direction, and fabric innovations approximately 9-12 months ahead of season
• Willingness to relocate to Philadelphia or reside in a commutable distance to Urban Outfitters Home Office.

Education

Bachelor Degree in Fashion Design or Equivalent Experience
