DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Be part of the uniformed PUC Motor Carrier Enforcement Division covering the 67 counties of Pennsylvania. Authority to stop and inspect all commercial motor vehicles to ensure they are in safe operating condition. Protect the motoring public by placing unsafe vehicles and drivers Out-of- Service. On occasion work side by side and in conjunction with State and Local Police with the goal of preventing and reducing the number injuries and fatalities involving commercial motor vehicles.

Conduct Safety Audits to ensure that new motor carriers have the knowledge of the regulations and safety management practices in place, which lends itself to a safer operation on the highways of Pennsylvania.

The counties of patrol are BLAIR and HUNTINGDON. Candidates must reside in one of the counties of patrol or relocate within six months of employment. Additional travel may be required.

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Four years of enforcement experience with a governmental regulatory agency’s laws, rules and regulations pertaining to motor vehicles; or
• Four years of professional police experience; or
• Graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in police sciences or law enforcement; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  

Necessary Special Requirement:

• Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Condition of Employment:

• Successful completion of training and safety courses within six months of employment.

• Hiring preference for this vacancy will be given to candidates who live within Blair or Huntingdon counties. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
