The VDC Assistant Manager is responsible for project level management, implementation and execution of McCarthy’s Virtual Design & Construction (VDC) and Building Information Modeling (BIM) Processes, Tools and Best Practices within their assigned region. The VDC Assistant Manager reports to the VDC Manager or next highest position and supports the development of VDC and non-VDC engineers with mentorship guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project-level management of VDC services and deployments across the regional office/business unit, including consensus building and integration with all partners through each process timeline
  • Project-level execution of BIM Execution Planning, 3D constructability, 3D Design and Trade Coordination, front end development and resource/budget planning without regular direction
  • Lead implementation of VDC processes/tools, best practices, and their related training(s) on regional initiative(s) through pro-active communication and effort to continuously improve others
  • Creation of detailed and accurate VDC schedules aligned with applicable construction activities
  • Management of in-house 3D models by VDC group to aid constructability and gap modeling
  • Establish and maintain accurate and current databases of VDC implementation/support costs for each project(s) and actively communicate regular updates to relevant peers
  • Maintain, Evaluate and Report VDC Metrics at various stages of project lifecycle
  • Assist project peers’ growth and development in coordination workload
  • Initiate and Lead VDC on-site training at various project and regional training opportunities.
  • Document and communicate VDC “lessons learned” and Verify/Confirm concurrence
  • Maintain an active voice of leadership and be known as local expert on main VDC capabilities
  • Ability to message value and accurately estimate all VDC functions through the project lifecycle
  • Ability to execute laser scanning and drone flights, processing and deliverables as needed to support regional workload
  • Participate in the development and implementation of regional goals and initiatives

Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering, Construction Management or Architecture is required or equivalent years of industry experience.
  • 4-7 years’ construction experience on relevant projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, self-motivated individual, effective listener, with ability to actively voice and garner influence among others in small to large audience setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, facilitate and document meetings/initiatives to sufficient detail.
  • Process oriented, timely, and accountable to commitments/deadlines.
  • Strong overall knowledge of building construction sequencing and building systems.
  • Strong overall knowledge of project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design Build, and CMAR project delivery methods.
  • Understanding of Preconstruction and Construction Operations business functions.
  • Team builder attitude, self-motivated problem solver, active cross-communicator/facilitator.
  • Proficient with authoring, analysis and scheduling tools such as Revit, Revizto, SketchUp, Tekla, Synchro, or others where applicable.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in daily documentation programs such as Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, or others where applicable.
  • Some Regional travel required.
