Here at B&K, the ideal candidate for the VDC (BIM) Project Manager will have the ability to supervise VDC Specialists and Spoolers on Plumbing and Piping disciplines. The person will oversee team productivity, time management, group standards and quality. It also manages and directs outsource BIM subcontractors as required.


Job Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Key Initiatives

  • Review contract documents thoroughly for all projects and recommend a strategy prior to modeling.
  • Incorporate best practices, constructability, and cost effectiveness.
  • Operate as the pre-construction project manager of BIM tasks, pushing construction management and other internal/external stake holders to stay on task.
  • Work with Project Managers to obtain information required for BIM, schedule coordination and design tasks, conduct BIM reviews and off-team quality reviews, and conduct site visits.
  • Facilitate BIM coordination meetings on projects where Batchelor & Kimball is the BIM lead on the project. This includes running the model during coordination meetings and assigning clashes to individuals or sub-contractors.
  • Assist management in the recruitment and growth of the best VDC Professionals in the industry to meet future growth goals.
  • Enforce project templates, standard and processes as previously established throughout the VDC Group.
  • Perform initial model and drawing file setup while continually updating models as required throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist VDC Specialists with modelling functions as required by the project schedule to ensure that project deadlines are met.
  • Support the Robotic Total Station (Trimble) layout team with site control through communication with internal or external project teams.

Supervisory / Budgetary / External Communication Responsibility

  • Manage project specific duties related to VDC Specialists and Spoolers.
  • Manage BIM/VDC subcontractor scheduling and productivity on a project specific basis.
  • Schedule and balance the daily work activity among the VDC team members to support construction and fabrication needs.
  • Provide input on BIM estimates, monitoring and meeting financial goals and schedules.
  • Maintain an accurate schedule of required activities for each project.
  • Work with team members to assign and prioritize tasks and track progress for all.
  • Responsible for communicating to both internal and External customers

  • Knowledge of Robotic Total Station, Autodesk Fabrication CAM & Project Management Software

  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret technical literature/writing and plans

Prior work experience and educational requirements

  • Experience in leadership and direct supervision of technical personnel.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction based mechanical design and
  • fabrication.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication CADMEP and Autodesk Navisworks or any other BIM software is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint and ability to be trained in use of the Company-specific applications and software
