Description
The Engineer has authority over the boat’s engineering spaces and all propulsion and auxiliary machinery. Responsible for the inspection, routine maintenance, maintenance and repair planning, and troubleshooting of the vessel’s main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, and its various systems.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Maintain all equipment in proper working order
- When necessary, repair equipment as soon as possible and report progress to the captain
- Ensure that the engineer trainee assigned to the vessel receives maximum exposure to and instruction in a wide variety of engineering duties and report progress to the Mgr. of Boat Maintenance Vessel Training
- Conduct daily, weekly and monthly maintenance and maintain documentation
- Maintain the required paperwork and computer documentation
- Report accurately the fuel, water, lube status, and consumption to the wheelhouse daily
- Maintain required inventory
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance to keep current
- Perform required inspections as scheduled
- Keep machinery spaces clean, painted, safe and orderly
Education and Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED, any additional vocational training or US Coast Guard License a plus
- Preferred experience with electronic engines (CAT, GE or EMD 710)
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
- Strong communication skills, verbal and written
- Manage Maintenance Inventory
- Must possess the ability to work independently and with sense of urgency

Physical Requirements of the job:
Must be able to work independently, schedule and maintain system maintenance. Meet the minimum physical abilities requirements for the position and have the ability to be away from home for a minimum of 28 days. Must be able to pass DOT physical and drug screen and back ground check and be part of a random drug testing pool. Ability to on-board /off-board vessel, ability to ride in skiff, crew boat or zodiac to and from vessel. Ability to sit, stand, kneel, bend at the waist for periods of time necessary to make repairs. Ability to respond to emergency situations and work until the vessel is safely under control.
