PCV Surgery Technician Position Job Description

We are a brand new multispecialty hospital in Irvine that is rapidly growing! Our need is for experienced veterinary technicians and/or veterinary assistants who are ready to take the next step. The open position is for a day tech/assistant position with our surgery department. We would like to develop an amazing team consisting of anesthesia technicians (RVT preferred, but not required if you’re experienced), scrub technicians, and surgical assistants.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Surgical Responsibilities

· Prepare estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients, supporting hospital financial policies.

· Explain necessary follow up and home care instructions.

· Properly care for all surgical materials and equipment; keep the operating room properly stocked and prepared for surgery.

· Effectively position for and take radiographs.

· Knowledge of anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring

· Implementing proper sterile technique

· Knowledge of pain management

· Potential to scrub into orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries to assist surgeon with instruments

· Potential to run anesthesia for CT

· Be familiar with common medications and drug calculations used for surgeries (anesthesia techs only)

· Perform basic suture techniques (RVT only)

Physical Demands:

· Handle animals weighing up to 50 pounds.

· Contact with animals, including restraint of animals (sometimes fractious) as required.

· May be required to wear protective clothing for extended periods of time including: gown, coveralls, gloves, masks, face shields, goggles, sleeves and head covers.

· Work occasional overtime, sometimes on short notice.

· Understands the importance of a clean and orderly facility, does not hesitate to clean or organize as part of a normal job duty.

· Maintains positive, cooperative relationships with other employees in other departments.

· Be comfortable interacting with clients

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour

Experience:

• Veterinary experience: 3 years (Preferred)
