Staffing Solutions Enterprises is excited to be partnering with an incredible organization in Summit County! We are currently in search of Vice President of Development & Marketing for Akron Urban League.
The mission of Akron Urban League is to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Summit County, particularly African Americans, through economic self-reliance and social empowerment.
The Akron Urban League seeks a Vice President of Development & Marketing to join their team in a time of strategic organizational growth and development. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) the Vice President (VP), Development & Marketing serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and an active participant in making strategic decisions affecting the AUL. In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for all marketing and fund development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build AUL’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support. Four full-time direct reports to this position will include: Director of Marketing & Communications, Manager of Events, Volunteers & Special Projects, Fund Development Associate and a soon to be hired Grants Writer.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish the vision and strategic direction to oversee the Development activities for AUL
- Direct and oversee the implementation of all fundraising plans, programs and efforts including annual appeals, major gifts, grants, foundation support, special events, and marketing/communication functions
- Participates in key meetings and solicitations with potential donors identified by the CEO and board members for ongoing operations, then carries out personal solicitation calls.
- Develop and manage strategic relationships with donors, the philanthropic community, and key stakeholders. Participate in community events to represent AUL
- Work closely with the CFO on the financial components of the long-range strategic plan, ensuring financial strength with revenue growth.
- Have primary responsibility for development and execution of all proposals; write and archive all proposals with a long-term relationship-management approach
- Oversee & research funding sources and trends, with foresight, to help position AUL ahead of major funding changes or trends
- Identify, develop, and mentor a successful development and marketing team
Qualifications:
- High energy and passion for AUL’s mission is essential
- MUST believe in AUL’s mission and embrace personal qualities of honesty, respect, empathy and compassion, integrity, and credibility.
- 10-plus years of professional experience in a nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function (managing and forging relationships with multiple donor sources)
- Tangible experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
- Flexible and adaptable style; a leader who can positively impact both strategic and tactical fundraising initiatives
- Ability to construct, articulate, and implement annual strategic development plan
- A professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
- Strong interpersonal skills, especially negotiation, influencing, relationship building, and collaboration
- Proficient in fund development software (Salsa Labs, Raiser’s Edge, Donor Perfect, etc.)
- Strong Computer skills with Microsoft Office Suite and experience navigating within different foundation grant submission portals
