Overview:
The Vice President of Finance (VP, Finance) oversees all accounting, finance, and IT activities for the Canfisco Group, U.S. Operations (currently operating mainly as three separate entities). As part of the senior executive team, the VP, Finance works with other leaders to identify areas for continuous improvement across their areas of responsibility, focused on sustained business growth and compliant best practices. Embodies ethical leadership and cultivates collaboration at all levels of the organization. Responsible for forecasting, budgeting, reporting, cost accounting, software and systems, financial management, taxes, audits, banking relationships, and supervising, mentoring and developing staff. Travels to remote seafood processing plants in Alaska as needed, and to meetings in Canada. This position is exempt from overtime and reports to the CFO of The Canadian Fishing Company (Canfisco), our divisional leader.
Responsibilities:
  • RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Establishes and directs the strategic long-term goals, policies and procedures for accounting, finance, and IT. Works with other leaders to leverage synergies across organizations to reduce redundancies and streamline work.
    • Provides the vision and leadership for developing and implementing business functions and systems in a dynamic environment.
    • Develops analytic tools to review production results and to identify ways to improve profits, ROIC, and other key performance and financial indicators.
    • Trains and supervises staff to ensure internal controls and procedures align with legal and regulatory standards, and best practices (IFRS / GAAP) as well as meeting business needs.
    • Builds proforma manufacturing statements and works with operations managers to maximize the value of products produced.
    • Manages cash flow (planning, forecasting) and controls costs and expenses, both short and long term.
    • Responsible for month end close and year end processes.
    • Oversees all accounting and finance data and reports including inventories and fixed assets.
    • Ensures all tax returns and payments are completed timely and accurately.
    • Oversees all financial audits and reporting.
    • Builds and revises budgets and capital expenditures.
    • Manages plant accounting functions and systems to ensure timely and accurate data is captured in the most efficient ways.
    • Provides leadership and mentoring to the individuals within the accounting, finance and IT departments across multiple organizations. Effectively manages a physically dispersed team.
    • Identifies and mitigates accounting, finance, and IT related business risks.
    • Works to continuously improve processes and documentation.
    • Develops long-term professional working relationships with employees, business partners, customers, auditors, tax consultants, brokers, underwriters, bankers, and parent company representatives. Represents the company professionally and appropriately in interactions with others.
    • Create professional reports and presentations, including charts and graphs.
    • Maintains accurate, compliant and organized paper and electronic business records.
    • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 10+ years of senior level roles in accounting and finance for manufacturing companies.
  • BA/BS in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Working knowledge and expertise in IFRS and GAAP accounting standards.
  • Expert level in Microsoft Excel.
  • MBA and/or CPA preferred.
  • Alaska seafood industry knowledge preferred.
  • Experience supervising IT teams preferred.
  • System experience preferred in: GP Dynamics, Power BI, Cognos, Sage, Northscope.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergent situations effectively.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Influential, collaborative, professional demeanor. Effective oral and written communications.
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to remote seafood processing plants with inherent hazards such as moving machinery, ammonia, wet floors, noise, forklift traffic, etc. Travel is often on small planes in inclement weather.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Canada and within the U.S. to attend business meetings.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Payroll Information
Pay periods are biweekly. Our workday is defined as the calendar day, and our work week runs from Monday through Sunday. Employees are paid on the Friday following the end of the biweekly pay period. We encourage employees to sign up for direct deposit but you may elect to receive paper checks instead.
