ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Follow district, building, and departmental policies and procedures.

2. Treat all students, staff and parents and others encountered on the job with respect, compassion and patience.

3. Function effectively as a member of an instructional team.

4. Encourage students with visual impairments to perform independently.

5. Assist students in coping with emotional or psychological needs during the school day.

6. Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students and staff.

7. Administer drugs/prescription drugs by ingestion in accordance with school district policy.

8. Assist with the supervision of students.

9. Work with individual student to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.

10. Basic computer literacy and/or willingness to expand computer skills.

11. Operate and care for instructional equipment.

12. Work with a high quality of accuracy.

13. Produce Braille for student use if needed.

14. Ink print documents from Braille to print if needed.

15. Produce tactile graphics to assist student in understanding concepts.

16. Produce auditory materials to assist students with concept reinforcement.

17. Produce large print documents for student use.

18. Assist with computer/keyboarding instruction.

19. Provide student with in-classroom, home and community assistance as specified in the IEP and when unspecified needs arise.

20. Assist student in Special Physical Education (SPE) and/or Regular Physical Education classes.

21. Promote self -help, social, and recreation/leisure skills and opportunities for students.

22. Reinforce instructional goals including the use of assistive technology, O&M skills and related service goals.

23. Attend IEP meetings.

24. Supervise student with visual impairment during bus loading and unloading.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. May be asked to participate in team processes for continuous improvement.

2. Perform such other appropriate duties as may be determined by the professional staff within parameters of the master agreement, Board of Education policies, state statutes, and administrative rules.

3. Prepare instructional aids, games, and bulletin boards at the discretion of the instructor.

4. Attend staff meetings as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High School diploma or its equivalent.

2. Prior experience in working with visually impaired students with or without Braille, or willingness to learn Braille and its related skills of reading, writing, and transcribing during the work day.

3. Experience working with children in a structured setting preferred.

4. Currently licensed and/or eligible for WI Dept. of Public Inst. #883 Handicapped Children’s Aide license.

5. Ability to interact effectively with parents, students, staff, and others encountered on the job.

6. Ability to follow written and verbal directions as provided by teachers and administrators.

7. Ability to perform basic language, writing, and computational skills.

8. Ability to staff the position for the scheduled workday.

9. Possess basic computer literacy and/or willing to expand computer skills.

10. In lieu of the above qualifications, the district may consider appropriate alternatives.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.81 per hour
