The Department of Insurance is recruiting for a Volunteer Services Coordinator to join the SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) Program team. The selected individual will play a key role in our Couer d'Alene office.

This role will be best for an individual who enjoys giving presentations, organizing volunteer recruitment programs, and managing the utilization of volunteer workers. This role will be supported and trained by the SHIBA team. We welcome all levels of experience to apply for this opening. Hiring managers are continuously considering applications for this position. Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA) is a free, unbiased resource empowering Idahoans, with community volunteers and partners, to make informed decisions about Medicare through workshops, group presentations and personal counseling.

Example of Duties

  • Develops volunteer services goals and objectives.
  • Recruits, screens, interviews, and selects volunteers.
  • Analyzes work sites to determine potential for volunteer placement.
  • Places volunteers in appropriate jobs and evaluates performance.
  • Conducts orientation of volunteers and establishes, monitors, and conducts volunteer training.
  • Participates in and speaks to community groups to promote the volunteer program and Medicare education.
  • Implements training programs for Medicare, limited income assistance programs, and supplemental insurances.
  • Counsels and educates beneficiaries on a one-on-one basis.
  • Analyzes billing and coding of medical claims.
  • Plans, promotes, and implements special projects requiring community support.
  • Develops marketing and training materials.
  • Evaluates program performance.
  • Produces monthly and quarterly reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • Planning, developing, and maintaining programs to utilize volunteer workers;
  • Utilizing community resources for recruitment of volunteers;
  • Supervising volunteers including interviewing, selection, and performance evaluation;
  • Training volunteer workers; maintaining program records;
  • Preparing and giving oral presentations to groups.

Preferred/Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting insurance policies as a regular part of the job;
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently.

The selected candidate will be required to successfully pass a fingerprint background check prior to hire date and every five years thereafter.
