The mission of the Israeli-American Council (IAC) is to build an engaged and united Israeli-American community that strengthens the Israeli and Jewish identity of our next generation, the American Jewish community, and the bond between the peoples of the United States and the State of Israel.
Job Purpose:
In partnership with the CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. The successful candidate will help forge new relationships to build IAC’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The VP of Development will also design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating individual and philanthropic support.
As part of the executive leadership team of the IAC, the VP of Development will have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow a $26M budget through the solicitation of major gifts, individual donations, and corporate and foundation support.
She or he will expand and diversify the IAC’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with regional and programs’ directors to secure funding for new initiatives.
Reports to the IAC CEO.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Strategy and Implementation:
- Ensures that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, vision and plans.
- Support and partner with the CEO and board members on all major fundraising initiatives
- Lead, research, develop and implement short and long-term fundraising strategic plans for all IAC development efforts, including major gifts.
- Create, implement and be responsible for the annual development plan, strategy, and operating budget.
- Evaluates the effect of internal and external forces on the organization and its fund development, recommends short- and long-range fund development plans and programs that support the organization’s values, mission and general objectives.
- Keeps informed of developments in philanthropy and fund development; informs the chief executive officer, development committee(s) and board on current trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate policy making. Recommends policy positions concerning fund development.
- Assures development and writing of foundation, corporate and government proposals and solicitation materials.
- Helps develop a balanced funding mix of donor sources and solicitation programs tailored to the needs of the organization that will enable it to attract, retain and motivate donors and fundraising volunteers.
- Establish performance measures, monitors results and helps the executive team, development committee(s), regional councils and board evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s fund development program.
- Appropriately represents the institution, its board and executive director to donors, prospects, regulators, development committee(s) and fundraising volunteers.
- Helps the board and development committee(s) determine accountabilities for board members and fundraising volunteers and helps evaluate performance regularly.
- Monitor all donor information; provide and present statistical analysis to board and senior leaders
- Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors
- Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the development program
Oversight
- Provides general oversight of all organization’s fund development activities
- Manages day-to-day operations of the development function, and monitors adequacy of activities through coordination with staff, appropriate committees, and governing body.
- Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintains accountability standards to donors and ensures compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives.
- Assures proper planning including goal setting, strategy identification, benchmarking and evaluation to support fund development.
- Perform other related duties and special projects as required or directed.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, minimum 7 years of related job experience.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program and producing charitable contributions.
- Competent enabler of volunteers and staff.
- Track record of successful grant solicitations from foundations and other sources.
- Ability to translate broad goals into achievable steps.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the demands of executive management.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues to create a results driven, team oriented environment.
- Strong relationship management skills.
- Fluent in Hebrew and English - Speaking, reading, and writing.
- Understanding of the Israeli-American community.
- Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills.
- Creative thinker.
- Action oriented and ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, communications skills and out of the box thinking.
- Exceptional ability to multi-task and work under pressure.

- Knowledge and experience in the following areas: the nature and dimensions of philanthropy, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and, development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting.
