WALKER
FLSA Exempt
Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc., a leader in heavy civil construction and underground construction in North America and Canada, is seeking Walkers to work at our Blue Creek Project near Berry, AL.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent, the Walker supervises the activities of a field crew engaged in the construction of underground shafts, tunnels, slopes and associated structures.
Normal activities include:
- Ensuring that the work is performed safely and in compliance with the approved sinking plan and all applicable regulations.
- Directing the set-up and operation of drilling and excavation equipment.
- Directing the layout, drilling, loading, timing and detonation of blast holes.
- Directing the installation of temporary and permanent roof and rib support.
- Monitoring and mitigating hazardous conditions and unsafe working practices.
- Conducting safety meetings and accurately completing time sheets, shift reports, and production reports.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in shaft and slope construction.
- Understanding of and compliance with company and government agencies' regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, applicable State and Federal Mining Certifications is required..
- Must be eligible to obtain an Employee Possessor Permit from Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
- Basic math skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
