Job description
As a senior leadership team member, the Director of Warehousing provides leadership, support, and direction for our fulfillment operations and traffic office. This position directs and implements the operational strategy, business processes, and systems for overall distribution operations, including product receipt and put away, order fulfillment, warehousing and transportation. This position is responsible for forecasting the need for additional staffing, equipment, and warehouse expansion.
Position located at our headquarters in Tipton, PA.
Responsibilities:
- Adhere to New Pig’s value statements in all work activities and interactions with others
- Develop and execute New Pig’s distribution strategy; evaluate and adjust strategy and plans as required to sustain high levels of customer satisfaction, cost efficiencies and to help grow New Pig’s market position
- People management and development, including:
- Assist with recruiting and selection
- Establish and communicate performance standards and expectations to team members
- Establish and implement operational objectives (short-term and long-term), and policies/procedures, in collaboration with respective direct reports
- Monitor performance and provide feedback for continuous improvement
- Promote a Safety-First culture to maintain compliance with all current safety policies, protocols, and requirements. Ensure team is trained in the safe operation of automated equipment, vehicles and in the proper conduct of their duties to reduce accidents, injuries, and property damage.
- Effectively use financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and KPI achievement to determine areas for potential cost reduction and improvement
- Communicate with Senior Management on short and long-term objectives. Provides and distributes regular information (reports, verbal communication, dashboard, etc.) to communicate operational results, trends, and costs.
- Engage with Sales departments to understand and meet customer expectations
- Provide recommendations to New Pig’s subsidiaries to improve their fulfillment operations
- Management of all shipping activities
- Help to identify technologies (TMS, Rate Shopping, etc.) that support the department’s strategies
- Oversight of the transportation management system (TMS)
- Management of 3PL warehouse relationships via KPI’s and financial performance
- Management of efficient warehouse design and workflow using best practices, lean principles and automation where appropriate
- Establish and manage quality systems and metrics to ensure order accuracy, on-time delivery and high levels of customer satisfaction
- Establish and maintain constructive communications and relationships with third parties, such as suppliers, vendors, and customers; uses effective negotiation skills and resolves conflicts
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and Department of Transportation rules and regulations
- Adhere to New Pig’s Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards
Experience & Education Requirements:
- 10 years in increasingly responsible management roles in distribution, logistics, and/or supply chain management to include:
- Organizing and managing a traffic department and implementing tools to continuously improve service to internal and external customers
- Significant experience with Warehouse Management software and coordinating with IT on selection of new software and modifications
- Experience in contract negotiations and managing key relationships with multiple transportation firms (truck and parcel) to ensure competitive rates and quality service
- Experience with international requirements and processes including knowledge around the importing and exporting of goods from all global regions including management and negotiations with steamship lines, freight forwarders and expeditors
- Well-developed leadership and people management skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Materials Management, or Supply Chain Management or equivalent combination of formal education and experience
- Solid understanding of DOT – U.S. Department of Transportation (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations
- Strong skills in the use of operations performance data, and other information resources for management analysis, evaluation, and decision-making, particularly in the areas of forecasting, budgeting, and planning
- Sound business judgment, grounded in quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with common business applications, including both spreadsheet and word processing software (i.e., Microsoft Excel, Word, etc.)
- Strong work ethic, characterized by initiative, drive and goal orientation
