ZLA Solutions has a client looking to direct hire a Waste Water Operator in their Pinson, AL Plant.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY: The Industrial Waste Water Operator collects samples, performs water quality testing, and makes adjustments to water treatment systems to make water compliant for discharge into municipal sewer systems in accordance with local, state, and federal permits and standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITIONS:
1) Follow all plant safety rules and policies.
2) Understand and promote Magna’s philosophies (Operational Principles, Corporate Constitution and Employee’s Charter).
3) Follow and comply with all safety standards including LOTO
4) Follow and comply with all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs.
5) Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
6) Support company and customer quality systems, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing process and creativity/innovation. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
7) Support the continuous improvement of Safety, Quality, Delivery & Productivity
8) Operate the waste water treatment systems according to standard operating procedures:
a. Perform testing using lab equipment and adjust chemistry and flow rates to optimize process within specified limits
b. Calibrate pH, flow, and other instruments
c. Maintain operator logs, shift reports, and other required routine documentation
d. Troubleshoot problems and implement solutions
e. Work closely with production teams: attend meetings and communicate relevant information
f. Order and receive supplies and chemicals
g. Safe handling and transferring of supplies and chemicals
h. Monitor and maintain good housekeeping following 5S standards
i. Collect samples for onsite and offsite analysis
9) Perform all required repair and maintenance on components including:
a. Pipe, valves, filters, and other piping components
b. Various types of pumps for water, sludge, and chemicals
c. Vessels including tanks, clarifiers, oil skimmers, etc.
d. Separators, agitators, sludge presses, DAF, etc.
e. Flow meters, level sensors, pH sensors and probes, samplers, etc.
10) Perform other duties as required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS SKILL (Ability to do the job)
- Willingness to work 12 hour shifts on seven out of fourteen days (Pitman shift)
- Ability to interpret basic schematics: piping, controls, electrical
- Ability to work in stressful situations
- Must be willing to work in various locations within and outside the facility
- MUST be computer proficient and comfortable using Microsoft Office and computer integrated equipment.
- MUST demonstrate mechanical ability, strong math skills, English reading and writing skills and disciplined precision in recording sampling and process data.
- MUST have a current, valid Driver’s License.
- MUST be able to lift and carry 30 pound bags.
- MUST be able to properly handle chemicals per MSDS sheets.

Knowledge:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required;
TECHNICAL TRAINING:

  • Understanding of related state and federal regulations
  • Experience treating oily and metals waste water from casting, metals washing, or other similar processes
  • Able to read, understand and interpret technical chemical analysis and lab test results
  • Ability to perform chemical calculations to processes (jar testing, titration, etc…)
  • Forklift Certification Required

OTHER: Computers, Experience with basic Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel

WorkExperience working in and/or operating industrial waste water plants or municipal water treatment plants is desired.
Certifications are highly desired.
The following types of experience will be considered:

  • Performing analysis and/or water testing
  • Operation of hydronic systems
  • Industrial maintenance

HOW MUCH? 2+ years

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.69 - $25.15 per hour

Schedule:

  • 10 hour shift
  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Experience:

  • operation of hydronic systems: 2 years (Preferred)
  • performing analysis / water testing: 2 years (Preferred)
  • industrial waste water plants: 2 years (Preferred)
