OSU-Cascades is seeking a Wellness Coordinator. This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE, 12-month professional faculty position.

The Wellness Coordinator provides services and support for the health & wellness programs at OSU-Cascades. Helping students to connect to physical and mental health resources, community support and engage with their peers has a direct impact on student satisfaction, success and retention.

The Wellness Coordinator is part of a multi-function student success team whose primary goal is to educate and engage students in a variety of learning experiences. The Wellness Coordinator serves as a non-clinical case manager, a point of referral and coordination with health and wellness services and collaborates with on- and off-campus partners to ensure wrap-around services for basic needs in support of student success.

OSU-Cascades, located in Bend, Oregon is a branch campus of Oregon State University. Established in 2001, the university currently enrolls more than 1,300 students in bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs. The campus expanded to a four-year university in 2015, opened its 10-acre campus in fall 2016, and the Oregon legislature approved additional funding in 2017, 2018 and 2021 for continued campus expansion, which is currently in progress. The branch campus has ambitious enrollment goals to reach 3,000 students and is engaged in building a culturally diverse and community-centric educational environment.
Position Duties
50% Student Support in Health and Basic Needs Navigation
  • Works with OSU-Cascades Assistant Director of Health & Wellness Services to connect students experiencing housing and/or food insecurity with campus and community resources and to assist with navigating the health care system matching insurance options, benefits, local clinical resources, and health care needs.
  • Supports on-going relationships with Central Oregon community partners to best serve OSU-Cascades students experiencing homelessness and/or food insecurity.
  • Navigates social services in Central Oregon, including Neighbor Impact rental assistance programs and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to support students.
  • Facilitate access to needed health, wellness and community resources, as needed and requested Provide education to students on differences, purpose and options in emergency, urgent, primary and specialty care services
  • Assist with understanding and explaining health insurance types, benefits, health care language and concepts into clear, simple and understandable information for students to maximize the potential to take reasonable action in choosing health care needs


25% Administration
  • Assist with the maintenance of the OSU-Cascades Health and Wellness website, print resources and social media.
  • Attend and engage in health and wellness education related outreach events including, but not limited to drug and alcohol use and suicide prevention.
  • Support any ongoing or new grant initiatives under the direction of the Assistant Director of Services.
  • Assist with development, implementation and assessment of health and wellness workshops in conjunction with community providers
  • Supervise student workers in the absence of the Assistant Director.

20% Public Health Interventions
  • Assist in coordination of on campus testing initiatives for COVID-19; work in conjunction with community providers and OSU Student Health Services to send students to external testing. resources and assist in funding provisions.
  • Work with community/regional/state-wide entities to facilitate vaccination efforts.
  • Participate in OSU and OSU-Cascades workgroups on various public health topics and resumption efforts.

5% Other duties as assigned.
  • Serves on school, college, and university committees, participates in professional organizations and activities, completes ad hoc projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum/Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Education, Social Work, Counseling, Social Sciences, College Student Services or a related discipline.

Minimum of two years of successful and progressively responsible experience in health and wellness, social services or related field.

Knowledge and/or experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

Ability to plan, implement, evaluate and report activities, juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities, prioritize appropriately, pay careful attention to details, and meet deadlines.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally in front of small and large groups and to provide workshops, trainings and outreach programs during occasional evening and weekend hours.

High computer proficiency including strong MS office experience with Word, PowerPoint, Excel (or comparable program) and working knowledge of Outlook (or comparable program) and/or Windows/Mac.

Experience using excel for data entry, analysis and summation.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months. Offers of employment are contingent upon meeting all minimum qualifications including the Criminal History Check Requirement.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Experience relating to and working with college age students and committed to a developmental philosophy of student engagement.

Experience developing and coordinating health and wellness outreach and educational activities.

Experience in development of educational materials and workshops and learning outcomes.

Experience with event planning Fluency in a second language – Spanish preferred.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
The position typically works indoors in an office setting and is occasionally required to stand for long periods in the outdoors where temperatures can be hot or cold.
Occasional evening or weekend schedule required.
