Job Summary:

We are seeking a field and lab technician to participate in an ongoing project exploring the decline of wild rice in the Northern Highland Lake District in northern WI. This person will conduct field work, supervise an undergraduate intern, and contribute to data analysis. This researcher will live and work at the Center for Limnology's (CFL) field station at TLS in Vilas County, WI.



Responsibilities:
Conducts research experiments with limited supervision. Provides technical support with some degree of independence for research projects and/or labs under moderate supervision.
  • 15% Prepares lab and/or field test materials and samples according to established research requirements and specifications. Performs lab or field tests.
  • 10% Inspects and maintains equipment, supplies, inventory, and facility spaces
  • 50% Collects data and monitors test results according to established research requirements and specifications
  • 10% May assist with literature reviews and/or report writing
  • 15% Reviews data to summarize results for presentations or reporting

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree



Qualifications:

The successful applicant:

  • will have a background in limnology, botany, ecology or related fields
  • will have experience doing field work, preferably on lakes
  • will be comfortable on and in water
  • will have an enthusiastic approach to field work, including tolerance of unpleasant weather in the field
  • will have excellent writing and communication skills and will successfully interact with the intern and the Principal Investigators
  • will have good organizational skills for maintaining a research schedule and oversee quality assurance of data
  • will be creative in helping design research strategies
  • will have a familiarity with boating and trailering (desired but not required).
  • must have a driver's license with two years of driving experience and a clean driving record


Work Type:

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.



Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended based on need and/or funding.



Salary:

$16.00 HOURLY
