Location: CENTRAL HARNETT HOSPITAL, LILLINGTON, NC
Position Summary:
Performs fluoroscopic, radiographic and portable procedures to include OR procedures, and assists in the diagnosis and treatment of neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Performs quality radiographic procedures including, but not limited to skull, facial bones, chest, cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine, pelvis, abdomen, upper extremities, lower extremities, GI tract, urinary tract (IVP’s and Cystograms), barium enemas, small bowel series, myelograms, arthrograms, spinal injections, PICC line insertions, and port-a-cath flushes. Prepares contrast media for administration and/or assists radiologist in administering contrast media and practices sterile techniques. Checks prior tests to see if a patient is properly prepared and instructed; positions and immobilizes patients. Provides radiation protection to patients and personnel. Documents all appropriate paperwork relative to examination, ensures images are appropriate in PACS. Monitors digital display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve image quality. Understands and manages the image management system. Accurately performs data entry into the hospital and department computer systems, including the area specific data acquisition devices. Assists with inventory control and proactively informs necessary personnel when equipment is not working properly. Performs downtime procedures when computer systems or equipment fails. Monitors patients’ conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to appropriate personnel and/or radiologist. Sets up examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready. Assist Harnett Health System Medical Imaging Team to deliver the highest level of operation and clinical standards. Effectively demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of HHS on a daily basis. Provides back-up support to co-workers as appropriate, orients new employees to the department, policies, and/or equipment. Mentors radiology students
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and understands the range of treatment needed for all age groups. Good knowledge of standard medical imaging procedures and the physical and biological effects of ionizing radiation. Great knowledge of anatomy and physiology, asepsis, sterile techniques and radiological positioning. Thorough knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations. Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel. Applies principles of collaboration and teamwork to job responsibilities. Ability to acquire, format, manipulate, archive and print images on the area specific digital acquisition devices. Critical thinking skills, including using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. Ability to use new information correctly and apply to problem-solving and decision-making. Demonstrates patient support activities such as patient flow, preparation, clean up and turnaround of examination. Good knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Ability to use office equipment and automated systems/application/software. Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks. Ability to work effectively under pressure and to use discretion with confidential data. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public. Seeks out applicable continuing education opportunities.
Required Education, Licenses, and Certifications:
- Graduate of an accredited radiologic technologist training program and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Must pass boards within one year of employment.
- Current BLS required.
