Summary

The Early Learning Center 1-1 will work in our preschool classroom for 30 hours, five days a week, 9am-3pm. They will work 1-1 with a student identified as needing instructional and behavioral support in the classroom. This position is available immediately and will be posted until filled. Our 1-1 paraprofessional will provide support under the direction of the lead teachers and in coordination with service providers to create a caring and safe environment for the child and will assist in program engagement to improve the overall care and quality of education received.

Duties

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
  • Under the direction of the classroom teacher and service providers, provide individual instruction and behavioral support to assigned student.
  • Assist in preparing individual lessons, materials, and equipment to implement academic programming
  • Provide input in the development of student goals and objectives
  • Provide information relative to student's progress for quarterly and annual reviews
  • Knowledge of assigned student's behavior plan and supervise student behavior
  • Knowledge and participation in the routines of the day and support the child's participation in planned activities and procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of child development and individual differences and implement all necessary components in assigned student's programming needs
  • Understand and implement safety procedures of the program and student assigned
  • Participate in training and development sessions as assigned

Requirements

A 1-1 Aide must meet the minimum qualifications and training as described in the Vermont State Child Care Program Licensing Regulations. In addition, the 1-1 Aide should have:
  • At least 18 years of age
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least successful completion of a 3 college credit course in child or human development or a 3 college credit course in school age care and education and 12 months experience working with groups of children from grade 3 or younger OR completion of the Fundamentals for Early Childhood Professionals' course within the first 12 months of employment.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete).
  • A satisfactory fingerprinted background check.
  • A strong understanding of child development and early childhood education.
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, service providers and parents/guardians) and to foster a team environment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job:
  • Work is often performed in a typical non-office environment requiring:
  • Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
  • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
  • Dexterity sufficient to manipulate objects with fingers, for example operating a computer keyboard
  • Basic agility for lifting and maneuvering large amounts of weight (occasionally lift and/or move 26-50 pounds)
  • Communication skills using the written and/or spoken word
  • Vision sufficient to see objects within normal parameters, peripherally and at a distance
  • A great deal of physical effort, often required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
  • Some degree of exposure to physical risk, minor illness and infections
