Position: Optometry Assistant

Location: Waianae, Oahu, HI

Experience: One year of optometry experience in an optometry setting or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Current BCLS certification required

Type: Full-time; Contract

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Pay: $17.05/hr PLUS training and support for career growth

Kahu Malama Nurses is seeking an Optometry Assistant to join a growing and dynamic team!

Job Description:

• Collects and accurately documents patient data into the medical record system, maintaining and handling information with confidentiality and following HIPAA guidelines
• Organizes and handles patient visit intake, preliminary vision tests, discharge, and prescription requests according to operational protocols, policies and procedures
• Maintains professionalism in all customer interactions and handles and/or directs questions, compliments, and complaints using appropriate chain of command
• Operates computer and office equipment effectively and safely. Notifies appropriate person(s) of malfunctioning equipment in timely fashion
• Performs clerical duties according to operating protocols, policies and procedures. These duties include: telephone and message management, file management, data entry into the medical record and databases, insurance verification, prior authorization for services, timely handling of patient referrals, schedule management, supply inventory management, payment collection and cash handling, and accurate and timely charge submissions
• Assists patients with eye glass frame and lens selection as appropriate
• Completes annual competency and education or training as required
• Participates in staff meetings
• Participates in quality management, patient safety and infection control activities
• Maintains knowledge of department policies and procedures
• Performs additional duties as assigned

Position Requirements:
