The 2nd Shift Lab Tech performs basic technical tests on products and samples. Primary responsibility will be preparing, filling, and shipping color panel requests. Other responsibilities may include preparing and analyzing materials and samples, performing basic calculations, and cleaning and maintaining the lab.
- Perform basic paint and paint making processes, meeting manufacturing specifications
- Perform basic coating formulations, applications, and physical/performance test methods
- Provide timely and accurate data to help resolve field complaints, raw material issues, manufacturing problems, and support existing and new product development
- Cleans, maintains, and calibrates standard equipment and maintains a clean and safe working environment.
- Completes appropriate forms and documentation regarding tasks and requests; receives direction from other technicians or chemists on specialized or complex issues.
- Performs basic calculations to prepare and finalize formulations
- Performs basic technical tests based on formulas and project requirements; tasks are more standard and require limited judgment within established guidelines.
- Prepares basic samples, materials, equipment, and other required tools for laboratory tests or development.
- Performs coating spray application.
- Performs packaging and shipment of customer samples.
- May design and execute experiments, draw conclusions, and make recommendations
- Comply with test methods according to set standards
- Document all formulation processes and complete proper forms and documents as necessary
- Comply with all safety and security regulations, and maintain a clean work area
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Additional duties as assigned
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 5%
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
- Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to determine the difference between colors so you can correctly tint paint to the colors desired by customers.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of basic math skills
- Computer knowledge for basic inputting, communication, and data analysis
- PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and other applicable applications.
- Laboratory work with various extrusion and coil coatings.
- Experience with roll coating, draw downs and/or spray application.
- 1 year Industrial lab experience
