General Gastroenterology Fellowship Program Director

The University of Missouri School of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is seeking a Program Director to lead our well-established, ACGME accredited General GI Fellowship Program. This is a full-time role, with sixty-five percent of the time being clinical and the remaining time established as protected time for execution of directorship responsibilities and administration. About Us:

The Missouri Digestive Health Center offers six lines of service with a specialized team of physicians, nurses, and researchers who are highly trained and dedicated to digestive health. These lines of service include innovative advanced and therapeutic endoscopy, colorectal cancer screening, liver diseases, inflammatory bowel diseases, neuromuscular and swallowing disorders, and nutritional sciences. The Division of Gastroenterology hosts two additional fellowships including non-ACGME-accredited clinical hepatology and advanced therapeutic endoscopy.

About Our Fellowship Program

The gastroenterology fellowship program has a long history of graduating outstanding gastroenterologists. Graduates of our training program are in private practice and academic programs throughout the country. Our program is designed to provide opportunities for fellows to develop clinical competence in the broad field of gastroenterology, including hepatology, endoscopy, clinical nutrition, and GI oncology. In keeping with ACGME requirements, a minimum of 18 months of clinical experience is required, including the equivalent of 5 months of hepatology. The other 18 months of training is dedicated to elective fields of clinical training and to research intended to enhance competency.

  • Duties will be divided
    • 65% Clinical responsibilities
    • 25% Protected time to complete fellowship director duties
    • 10% Professional development
  • Program Director Responsibilities
    • Develop, oversee, and improve the GI Fellowship Program by implementing changes based on the current accreditation requirements
    • To prepare for re-accreditation site visits and reviews by the ACGME Review Committees.
    • Mentorship of the Associate Program Director
  • Division Providers:
    • Physicians: 10
    • APPs: 1
  • Locations:
    • MU University Hospital
    • Harry S. Truman VA Hospital
    • Fairview Digestive Health Center
  • Out-patient Schedule:
    • Roughly even mix of time spent on procedures and clinic
    • 1.5 days administrative time
  • Call:
    • Up to 8 weeks per year

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience as a board-certified Gastroenterologist in a program with an ACGME-accredited GI fellowship.
  • MD/DO, Board-certified in gastroenterology. For the purposes of this application, board-certified/board-eligible are considered experienced.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a Program Director or Associate Program Director
  • Experience in any of the following interest areas:
    • IBD
    • Motility
    • Nutrition
    • General Gastroenterology
    • Advanced Endoscopy
