The Academic Support & Intervention Specialist will implement and execute day-to-day interaction providing coaching and support for first-year students. Using a case management approach, the Academic Support & Intervention Specialist will offer proactive and positive interventions for student success.
- Assist in the development, recruitment, implementation, and delivery of a twelve-week Student Success Academy Program in the Fall and a 10-week Academic Excellence Program in the Spring.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of the one-credit hour Student Success Academy and the zero-credit hour Academic Excellence Program Transitions labs, which offer academic progress checks and techniques for navigating roadblocks to academic success.
- Serve as an immediate source of support for students, analyzing barriers, determining solutions, and coordinating interventions and processes for students.
- Monitor academic progress of undergraduate SXU students and initiate contact with those needing assistance and/or support, utilizing early alert software and Academic Planning modules.
- Maintain academic records and contact information using Academic Evaluation and Retention Alert software.
- Interpret program evaluation reports, assessment tests, transfer evaluations, articulation agreements and University policies and integrate the information into the Saint Xavier University curriculum.
- Maintain ongoing data related to Student Success Academy and provide quarterly reports on their progress to include steps taken to overcome barriers to success.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff from a variety of departments and programs, including Learning Center, Counseling Center, Advising/Career Services, and Accessibility Services to provide specific support services to students.
Master’s degree preferred in Education, Student Personnel Services, Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of best practices to promote student success.
Knowledge of HSI (Hispanic Serving Institution) best practices.
Familiarity with Student Development Theory.
Experience in supporting, recruiting, or working with historically underserved populations or first-generation students, with a focus on creating access to higher education.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Demonstrate knowledge of retention issues and practices in higher education.
Demonstrated ability to work as a cohesive member of a team, planning and organizing events and programs.
Ability to work under pressure with composure.
Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, seek solutions, and refer to appropriate parties.
Strong technical skills. Colleague or university database experience preferred.
Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, organize, and prioritize tasks, while remaining flexible to handle vague or changing information.
Ability to perform all the essential functions, skills, and specifications of the position.
Description of Hours: M - F 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends.
