Essential Job Duties
The Accounting Technician position’s work involves double entry accounting and ranging from posting to account ledgers; reconciling accounts; verifying entries; maintaining and controlling general ledger accounts, reports, registers, and statements; and working with financial accounts of moderate variety and complexity. This position also assists the department by performing financial transactions across the department such as entering vouchers, JVs, reimbursements, and purchase orders, and performing other accounting tasks, as needed. Furthermore, this position processes all vouchers and travel reimbursements for grant and non-grant accounts, and is also responsible for billing and IDTs. This position entails using good judgment to complete these tasks as efficiently as possible. This work is often performed without the assistance of others.

The Accounting Technician also monitors and reconciles departmental or program budgets and tracks travel and office expenditures. This position reconciles grant projects on a monthly basis. The position creates and maintains its own Excel spreadsheets to complete this task.

Other Responsibilities
This position also serves as a backup receptionist and assists with travel arrangements for prospective students, graduates, and faculty.
This position is responsible for Pcard reconciliation and purchases.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word (or similar products);
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong ability to work in a team-oriented environment;
  • High level of motivation; should be a self-starter and able to work with limited supervision;
  • Experience in billing, accounting, and maintaining supplies.

Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience in an administrative role in an accounting environment.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials.
